I know this topic has probably been addressed many times here, but what is the root cause of the # 4 line failures in CRs? I talked to a guy the other day who drives a 2011 service truck with 260k miles on it, and he said he was stranded once on the interstate with a #4 line failure... This seems to be an unresolved issue??

once in a while my truck will idle rough, upon acceleration it stumbles/misses, and usually the engine will get stuck @ approx 1500 rpm and drive as though the cruise control is on. the rpms will maintain around 1500 up to a dead stop and accelerate once the brakes are released. the poor acceleration will maintain and if enough throttle is applied it will knock and ping accompanied by white smoke. the only way i can get rid of the stuck rpms is to put it in neutral I have considered injectors but once in neutral the engine revs and decels normal with no sputter, stumble, ping, or knockI have read about the APPS- but i dont think the 05's have themFCA- i think might be a p…

I have a new to me 2008 4dr 4X4 w/6sp auto, that got good fuel economy in warm weather. In cold weather it stays in what I perceive to be 4th for 3 to 4 miles before it will shift or torque converter lockup. The fuel mileage goes way down during this period. My overall average is down 2+ MPG. Is this the nature of the beast or is there something to be done to make it shift /lockup faster?

I did the "paper towel test" on a drop of oil from the crankcase because the oil level was about 1 inch above normal on the dipstick. It is a crude test I know but it looks like there could be some diesel in the crankcase. So who do you like best for doing an oil analysis (the definative test)?

This may be a simple question but the service manager at the Dodge dealership could not give me an explanation that satisfied me - maybe one of you know the answer. I had my new used truck for a week. It is an all stock (as far as I can tell) 2006 2500 4x4 crew cab 5.9 with 167,000 miles on it. While driving on the interstate 75 miles south of Dallas the check engine light came on. Tried to limp home to Dallas but when I had to come to a complete stop in traffic the engine died. Got it towed home. Engine compartment and underside of the truck was soaked in diesel due to an obvious break in the #4 injector line. At this point the engine would not turn over at all - the sta…

my truck recently started getting "stuck" in 2nd gear. @idle the truck will have a slight vibration when it is going to do it, during light acceleration the truck stumbles or misses and approx the time you reach 17-2000 rpm and release the accelerator the truck stays @ approx 1500 rpm until the tranny is shifted into neutral or it corrects itself, under heavy acceleration the shudder disappears however if acceleration is heavy once it is stuck there is a rapid clunking sound that i cannot pinpoint its origin. Fluid level was low, within the safe crosshatching, topped it off, have tried tow mode with no change. I've read several posts on the gov press solenoid and switch,…

Anyone have pictures of the third gen bumper mounting? I'll be flat towing a 3rd gen with no motor/trans in it back north when I pick up my '07 in 2 weeks.I have a friend with a third gen that I'm hoping I have time to make some brackets based off of but want to take a look at something ahead of time if I can.

So I saw the 2nd gen thread and wanted to play... What's the 3rd gen crowd doing for maintenance/mods this springs?Personally I am doing the following next weekend. Yukon Free Spin HubsDynatrac Ball JointsBilstein ShocksBilstein Steering StabilizerMaxx Links Sway Bar end linksDR Pro Fab Steering StabilizerNew front axle u-joints, AAM most likely. My shocks are starting to show signs of wear and my BJ's are still "within OEM spec" but I want to get this stuff done before I have to and it costs me down time from family fun. At 86K miles my OEM sealed bearings seem to be fine, but I am not taking any chances. I may also get a Max Brake trailer brake controller this spring, b…

High miles, deleted, lots of fresh parts. The business that owned it changed direction and sold it when the rear end blew. A friend picked it up cheap a few months ago and had a shop rebuild the rearend. It was broken in properly, rechecked, and filled with synthetic goodness.352k 2007 4x2 6sp C&C with 9.5' CM flatbed. 30k on delete, head gasket, turbo, injectors (it was loosing coolant, turned out it was the EGR and that's when/why). 9/10 on paint and body.Smarty Jr, no blowby, 3.42 gears, fresh brakes, front beam axle and steering were gone through, tranny is tight and doesn't grind, South Bend twin disc & hydraulics.cruise non-op, ABS light is on, needs tires, …

Got home from my annual snow goose hunting trip about 10:00PM last night. Hunting was "fair" at best................15 birds on Sat. and 9 on Sun.Mighty Whitey got 19.3mpg going down. Left with 130 all towing miles on the tank also. Filled up in Sikeston, MO when we got there on Fri. We went to and fro to our hunting area twice (Sat. an Sun.) and then drove home. That tank got me 19.5mpg. Hand calculated. Pretty happy with those numbers.............hard cross winds both going down and coming home. Average speed was about 68-70mph and the one way distance for the trip is about 450 miles.Just under 183,000 on Mighty Whitey now.

I have searched all over for days and cannot seem to find anything to help that applies to a 3rd gen. Issue: When I try to cold start (after truck sitting all night and it below 40 degrees out) the truck simply wont turnover unless I leave it plugged in all night. i'm talking NOT AT ALL. then I figured out that the WTS light is only staying on for a max of 3 seconds when cold so the grid heater isn't cycling long enough to warm up. it will stay on for the regular 10 seconds but only when the truck is at operating temp and shut it off and immediately turn it back on. What I have done: installed new grid heater, installed new IAT, and monitored IAT readings with scanguag…

Guys, this is kind of a silly question, but I like to give my engine compartment an occaisional bath. Are there any componets, or sensors on CR engines that should be avoided?I know old school gas engines you have to be aware of moisture in the distributor, air filters, and hot cast iron parts don`t like cold showers, but when it comes to a diesel engine I don`t have a clue what I should be avoiding if anything??

hey guys im new here.i have a 03 dodge 2500 5.9l cummins truck. i just overhauled the engine i.e. rings pistons bearing valve seals etc.. fitted it back in the truck. when i just started driving it it had no power, but eventually by driving it more n more i saw the power coming back every day. i went on a 3 hr country drive with it n there are times when it feel sluggish and has no power with a lil black smoke. then there are times when it comes back n runs great. ive got no codes related to this prob btw. just one about fan speed n another for brake switch. ive noticed since this week that this doesnt happen at nights when its cooler. now in the day time it sound like ai…

Not sure how many of you on this forum are using UDC, if any, but...Here is a timing calculator I created for use with Smarty's UDC. The file is not designed by, nor endorsed, by MADS. It's use is purely at your own risk. I assume no responsibility for its use. Okay, onto the file. I built this over the last 6-8 months and have refined it, and checked it's accuracy enough to share. I have had several people test it and all appears good. This is a good tool for tuning, and may not be the final answer for your tune, but is certainly a good start. It's data is only good as the data you feed it, so be accurate. Please let me know if you have any issues with it. I tried t…
