I have been reading bits and pieces about how the common rail engines have this so called “internal EGR” due to the way the camshaft is ground. People say this is one of the reasons the newer trucks don’t get the same MPG as the old. I can attest that my 1995 1-ton dually with the 12v and NV4500 would get as high as 20 mpg and 22 mpg if I kept the speed below 60 mph. With my 2004.5 3/4 ton 4x4 auto I have never been able to get the MPG into the 20’s no matter how I drive it. Have any of you swapped cams in a 3rd gen CR engine to try and gain back some of the performance and MPG that is lost due to this polluting the cylinder with exhaust? And if so …

Hi, I'm new here, I found this fine site over at Cummins forum, I have a 2004 slt 4x4 qclb 305hp w/ auto, my question, is there something that locks out the column shifter when it's cold out and truck is not fully warmed up? I started mine twice in the last week and only let it warm up a minute and when I went to shift into drive while stepping on the brake it would not budge,(temp was -20*)I repeated the step on brake and shift same thing, third try, I really stood on the brake pedal and it finally shifted, same thing happened yesterday, this is my first winter with this truck and I've only had it a couple months so I am still learning about diesel trucks, is there a sen…

Just priced a set of dynatrac ball joints.. $660.00 Suggested press tool to do the job right $422.00. Spicer drive axle Ujoints $90.00 ea. Sooo I`m looking at $1262.00 and I have not even gotten to the Spintec hubs ($1600.00) I have my heart set on for next months project.Throw in a brake job, and its a $3000.00 project. A buddy of mine has an 04 3500 6spd, 4wd, srw, 248k milesHe has a bhaf, 3pc exh. mani, 4" turbo back exhaust, and a predator programmer.the past few days, he's noticed a noise under boost. I haven't heard it, but he likened it to a coach's whistle..He initially thought his turbo (351cw) was failing, but I said no, as it's fine and makes tons of boost.I think it's a leak or something somewhere. While inspecting his truck last night, I noticed that the vband connection from turbo to downpipe is leaking. Hi.Just put a new APPS in my Dodge Ram 2003 HO. Its NOT a timbo (I am from Ontario Canada) but one that is meant to go on the truck. My voltage was set from factory at 4.97 volts DC on the blue wire which I thought was the one. Thinking now outload obviously that is NOT the idle voltage..haha. I did NOT change the voltage yet (and NO there is NO voltage stamp or tag on back). The guy I got it from said to change the voltage to .55 for idle. My question is this. I started truck and reved it up and it idles good, and revs good. Can I just leave it and drive it around and if it stays ok, leave it?

My truck has started burning a lot of oil and I have enough blow-by out of the blow-down tube that the underside of the truck is showing oil residue about 1/2 way back.I have parked the truck because I fear the worst that I may have a crack ring or something.BTW, the oil consuption went way up, like a gallon every 1,500 - 2,000 miles.I don't abuse the truck but did have a programmer on it that I have since removed.Also this is my 3rd Cummins Ram and the only one that has ever had an engine problem (130,000 miles). Anyone seen or heard of this before?Thanks!

I don't know why, or if it will last, but Amazon has the Hellwig rear sway bar for 3rd gen's listed at $121, about 1/2 of what it normally sells for. As of this post there are 12 available. If you have ever considered one, then I would buy it!! This made a HUGE difference in my trucks handling empty and towing, and I should have done it sooner. Last week the security system cluster light start to stay on everytime that I drive the truck and the key remote buttons stop to work. Tonight my wife take the truck to go at the mall and when she comeback in the parking lots to drive the truck she open the door and the horn and lights start to flash, she start the truck and the alarm still flash the light and sound the horn, she try to push the panic button, lock unlock the door nothing work to stop the alarm. after about 15 minutes of ALARM PARTY with the engine running the alarm stop, but as soon as she unlock the door manualy (the button stop to work in the truck to) the alarm start again. Need some help? I have an 05 Cummins with a 6" lift and recently the death wobble is gotten worse and no one seems to know why. The Front end is completely tight, Alignment is good. I have duel stabilizers and a gear box bracket on it. Any suggestions on what or how I can fix this.

Installed on my truck and mpg readings are way way way off. Any one else have this issue?? Was thinking about sending it back and getting a dif pod for guages any ideas?? - - - Updated - - - Called the place i ordedred the insight from and they said they have to get permission from edge to take it back. I explained it does not read right and they say that it has to be approved..WTF So I buy an Edge product that dont work and its my problem that its crap.

When I turn my key to run possition my lp runs about 5 to 8 seconds normally then stops before i start the truck. Now that I installed the smarty jr when I turn the key to run the lp keeps running til i turn the key back off is this normal???

Im new here guys, one of your moderators Rogan told me to get on here and ask question. So here we go.The truck is a 03 2500, with 288k miles as of now. For the past couple of weeks, not every day, it has been dead and had to be jumped. The times it has happened like this morning it was 30 degrees outside, so not that cold. Im in Texas, so cold doesnt happen to often around here.The batteries have been tested, and said to be good. My front passenger side window no longer works. Nothing from both the passenger side switch or the drivers side master panel switch. That would lead me to believe it's the motor..........correct????? Or is this run thru the PCM also???I have no test equipment, so have do I check for where the problem is??? That window was always slower up and down than the others; even when new. In fact, on last years NoDak hunting trip, it was in and out...........sometimes it'd work, sometimes not.Thanks in advance!!

After install of the insight I set the guages to read boost and frp. the highest the boost got when getting on it was 27.8 and 1.9 crusing. the fuel rail pressure at idle reads 5.5kpsi and and will hit around 20 kpsi when on it and crusing sits about 7 to 9 kpsi. Do these numbers sound right??

This issue has been showing itself since early fall when temps were only in the 40's & 50's Farenheit overnight. What happens is this: I start the truck (early 04 5.9, stickshift QCLB) and it will bring itself up to idle. Then there's a slight stumble that you can hear chug like once. The RPM drops below 500 for a second and then it recovers itself back up to about 750 or 800 rpm. A minute or so later, there's a larger & more noticeable skip and it'll almost choke itself out and then it'll recover back up to 900rpm and there's a huge puff of black out the exhaust.If it stumbles bad enough, it won't recover & then stalls. It'll start right back up no prob…
