3rd Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 2003 to 2009 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. Ok, I hate it when a question pops in my mind and I just can't find the answer. And, I'm crossed eyed looking the site over to satisfy this question.I know it as the 'gel point' where diesel 'starts' a gel effect when temps drop due to the winter climate ?When 2 stroke oil has been added to standard #2 diesel, does this gel point temp drop ... or not ?Any lab test on this ?

I've got a '04 3500 4wd 5sp with 180k on the clock. I bought this truck about 6 months ago after many great years with my old D350. I was resistant to going with a 3rd gen as I'm a pretty knowledgeable mechanic, but I'm not a "wires" guy.I love the truck, but sure enough, now it's developed a nasty intermittent electrical problem. Every once and a while, it will suddenly go crazy in the dash board, with all the gauges bouncing, lights flashing, bells and gongs all going off. Fortunately, the engine never (at least not yet) misses a beat, but I found that even the brake lights go on and stay on when this happens. Sometimes the odometer will display "NO BUS" when t…

Hey fellas remember 4 months ago that I posted about a guy that has an 08 ram 2500 6.7ctd and he didn't do proper servicing of the engine? Well guess what.... I now have it in the shop again!!! The remanned engine that we put in has FAILED!!! But this time it wasn't due to lack of servicing. I've personally have done the servicing every 5000 miles. So we pulled the engine out drop the pan, I find rod bearings in the bottom of the pan, number 5 rod bearing had failed! The company that we bought the engine from is now giving me the run around. I'm highly aggregated at the moment!!!

I dont know where to put this. You cant tell from the video but apparently the D-Max guy was shooting his mouth off to the Dodge guy. One way to settle it i guess is by doing this. It is hilarious.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7OegetyaRI

So my TPS reads 101% on my Quadzilla Adrenaline tuner, and 100% on my Edge w/Attitude all the time. If I unplug the Data-Link connection it reads 0%. My truck always runs as drives as it should. And it does this with 2 different apps sensors. My APPS is under the drivers-side battery.Anyone have any idea what's causing this??

I was driving down the hwy when my truck started running rough and smoking. Had to go about 20 miles to my destination. Found a broke push rod in #3 intake. Replaced the rod and checked the valves. Valves seem to be operating fine.Clearance is good. Truck runs good but when accelerating still have white smoke pretty bad. Truck is an 04 3/4 ton HO. Did have a broke exhaust spring in 2010. It was fixed by dealer. Need some help. Thanks

Just wanted to let you guys know that the Diehard Platinum batteries are on sale at SEARS for $175 each right now. The Platinums are an AGM battery made by Oddyssey in the USA, rebranded for Sears. They are an EXCELLENT battery with a 48 month replacement and 100 month prorated warranty. 930 CCA, 130 min reserve capacity. They even have a carry handle, which is a good thing cause they are HEAVY!!!! Here is a link to the P2/ Group 65 for 3rd gen trucks-- http://www.sears.com/shc/s/ProductDi...atalogId=12605 FYI--The sale on these batteries only normally lasts 12 to 24 hours. I have pulled all injectors and had them tested. #1 & #6 had high return flow. I replaced the two with high return as well as installed a 3 micron fuel filter, it started fine the first few days ( I have driven less than two hundred miles ), until the nights started getting cooler (<50 degrees), and it started with the long cranks again (multiple 20 second cranking cycles). If I plug in the block heater it starts in 3-5 second crank cycle. After driving I can shut it off any time and it starts within 3-5 second of cranking, just not cold. Prior to all of this I have Never had to plug in the block heater. I also, do not get any codes :banghead:

As you may or may not know the oil on 04.5-07 5.9's is BLACK as soon as you change it. I have modified my motor to remove nearly everything that contributed to the BLACK oil, but it still is BLACK as soon as I change it. I am currently 2/3 of the way thru an experiment. This past weekend I disconnected my bypass, and with compressed air I blew it out to help drain it. I then added a 1/2 bottle of Amsoil Engine Flush to the oil, and idled it for 15 minutes. I then drained the hot oil immediately. I put a CHEAP oil filter on, and filled it with Delo (BLACK 2 minutes after filling it). I then drove it about 6 miles to get hot (block was still warm from the first run and I ke…

It has been a while since I have drained my filters, so today I did. Almost a year later and no water. I always buy fuel at truckstops or Wally World here in town. Is it normal to not have any water?2003 Ram Cummins NV5600 with gauges and a Smarty! Not much more.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. I for the life of me can't figure out how to update my old smarty jr from the Madds web site.I have downloaded the files and 7zip "about 10 times and I don't have a clue what I am looking at" and have plugged in my smarty to my pc and it shows a popup stating the drivers are installed and it goes away and I get nothing but now what?I get no prompts or nothing, what do I do? Do I run the files or save them? I always save them. Am I supposed to download all 4 tool files on the site, I just picked the newest one date wise?:think:The site gives a good breakdown of what to do if you have windows xp but I have windows 7 and it just dead ends me at every turn.I went through this…

I know there are the 3rd gen diagnostic codes listed here. What I'm wondering is where do I find the "procedures" involved for delving into these. You know, like the stealership would do................they pull up a code, and look into their book/'puter for the "proper" way to fix it. First check ABCDEFGH then I etc. That's all.

I re-installed mine today. The rubber on my "washable" AEM filter on my Fram Boost 2 intake system was cracking/dry-rotting pretty good. Didn't feel like spending the coin for a new filter, so I re-installed the OEM filter box and filter. The OEM filter only had just over 12k mile on it when I tore it out originally. You know guys.............I kinda like the quiet.............no turbo whistle I mean. I forgot what it was like!!! When I have time, I'll "swiss-cheese" the airbox................not that it needs it, the OEM system flows enough air for about 500hp!!!

I was surprised that I couldn't find any comment on this. My probe is located between #5 and 6 cylinder. Up till now I've always used 1250* for when to ease off because that's what I used on my old 2001 24v, but wondered if newer 3rd generations are different. Does anyone have any information on what Cummins thinks?

I have a 2006 DRW quadcab with the 48re tranny in it. I bought the truck from used car dealer in town and he had no idea of the history of it. The truck was obviously used to pull a lot because it's equipped with a gooseneck ball mount and had a fifth wheel hitch as well as air springs in it at one time. Other mods that were removed by the PO are a boost gauge and egt gauge (the boost sensor is still there with about an inch of hose with a screw in it and there are two non-factory holes in the manifold right where an egt probe would have been). Anyway, I've had it about a year now and got a Mini Maxx tuner on it so I'm wondering how to tell if the tranny was modded b…

Alright guys i need some advice. My 05 has a 4.5 lift on it and the when I turn it creeks and clunks pretty bad. I had my whole steering gear box replaced years ago when it was still covered on the warranty. I think the gear box is making a little noise again not as bad as it was when I replaced it. The funny thing is it does it worse when the humidity is high anyways I want to just put all new stuff in like ball joints etc and of course I would love to get all Carli suspension but it is really expensive. So should I just replace it all with new stock or buy lets say the carli suspension upgrades piece by piece to have top quality parts. Are they any other top quality ma…
