Have 03 cummins. few days ago it began stalling after starting and driving for approximately 5 minutes. Might stall once more but then runs great. Have changed fuel and air filter. Bought fuel at a different place 3 nights ago.Anybody have any thoughts???

Since last week my truck start to CHUG when I drive it at any speed, it look like the transmission shift for no reason and send a signal to the engine to drop rpm. If I put the transmission on neutral I get the full rpm but as soon I put it back to drive it start to chug. I clean the conectors on the transmissiom and on the conector where the gas pedal sensor is and put dielectric on the conector, I found nothing wrong there out of some oil in one conector. The transmission fluid is good. Last night I make the truck sleep in the garage, this morning it was working fine, but after work on my way back home it start again, we have some snow here and the first time it start…

I started my 05 this morning and went back in the house to let it warm up some. I can hear it when the grids kick in and out, anyway after the grids where done it went to high idle all on it's own. Is this stock feature? So I get in truck and give accelator a tap like you would a carborator gas eng and it idles down so then I back out and set in the drive and it starts high idle again. Anyway I drive about 60 miles to pick up a load of pipe and while I am being loaded it goes into high idle again. The nose is pointed to the north and it's cold about 32 and I had been setting about 10-15 min. When I got back to truck it had idled back down.I am still suspicious that this t…

I have fixed my boost leak, I think, but I am still experiencing a power problem. Truck is a STOCK 2003 S.O CR motor 250hp/47RE auto except for Airdog100 and homegrown CAI and a 5" exhaust. Truck has no get up and go especially at interstate speeds. When I press the accelerator at highway speeds it seems very slow to react, the truck will go faster but it is slow in getting there. I have checked my rail pressures last night while cruising at 65mph and they hovered right around 90mpa ( 13,000 psi if my math is correct). The truck idles at about 35-37mpa (5,000-5,350 psi) and at WOT it will hit 150mpa (21,750 psi). The outside air temp was 55° and my IAT temp was 70°…

  6. OK I installed the new Gov/solenoid I bought from DTT today and new the trans won't sift out of second gear unless you let off the throttle completely and then if you give it to much throttle it wants to go back down to second even if the RPM is to high for it!!!! Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Don --- Update to the previous post... Should add that I install a new sensor at the same time, this was a OEM part from the dealer. --- Update to the previous post... Mike can you move this to the power train section please. --- Update to the previous post... OK found out what was wrong, the new governor solenoid is used in tw…

Without me in it, full fuel, and normal tool box goodies she is 8,000 (4800/3200). We went for a drive in the mountains this weekend, and in addition to my normal stuff had the winch installed, little bit of fire wood, some camp chairs, cooler and the whole fam (me, wife, 3 kids 430 lbs) we were 9,040 (5240/3800) leaving town with a full tank. It amazes me how easy the front axle is to go over GAWR (5200 lbs) on without a trailer or big load in the bed. Light loading the truck makes the front axle very heavy!

i have a terrible vibration during acceleration. already replaced carrier bearing, differential seems ok, as do bearings. 260,000 miles new to me in april 2011help!!

  9. This is my first winter since I have been running SW3 exclusively, but don't want my normal setting for snow/ice.. so here is what I am going to try. SW3 TM2 TQ1 PoD 70.. it should still have plenty of go-juice if I need it, but less low end (mainly weaker throttle response) for more traction from a stop.

A while back, I posted a thread about hitting a "log" in the road that bent the shaft of my steering stabilizer. Well, anyhow, the one I replace it with, failed on me. I was under my truck a couple days ago greasing the front end, and noticed that the dampner was wet with oil.............it was leaking. My truck for a while seemed to be pulling to the right because I'm having to ____ the steering wheel slightly to drive straight and because I'm noticing a bit more "road" in the steering. So I'm thinking that the damper took a crap.So I ordered a "top of the line" one from Geno's Garage..............Bilstine, just like my shocks. It came today, so I pulled the old one a…

I am new to this forum and really enjoy the education from all the posts. Just tested my turbo system and found a decent boost leak in the hose from the turbo to the intercooler. Started hearing the hissing sound at about 10psi. Have had some power issues with this truck and i am hoping this is the problem. Would this boost leak essentially keep the truck from fueling as it should? When i am pulling my 5th wheel this truck is really a slug. If i am thinking correctly the sensors will not see boost and therefore will not call for fuel. The truck smokes very little when pulling anything and will give a little puff when I goose it in neutral. This is my first diesel …

For years I have been thinking I should have a can of ether in the truck just because. I have never had a starting issue, but spend a lot of time off the beaten path in the truck. I had never done it, and was talking to my dad about it (he has an 06) and he told me a story from back in the late 80's. He had a '84 6.2 burb, and they were 70 miles from pavement hunting it the glow plugs went out, wouldn't start. He towed it behind another rig on 70 miles of forest service roads to town, one small shot of ether and he was up and running. He was so pissed that he has always had a can of ether in his diesel trucks, and has never needed it again..Well, for $2.99 I couldn't argu…

Pulled my air filter out today to look at adding a winter air inlet and WOW! It looks like it would severely hinder flow, but nope. On several WOT runs in 5th gear I am not sucking the filter minder down and the SGII only shows a .2psia drop at the intake. That's a quality filter, considering how much more air than stock I am moving. The filter has about 8,500 miles on it. UOA is coming in a month or so (7,500 miles) so we shall see if the silicon is where it was with the lower flowing Amsoil.

I have read and heard of people using pre-filters on their air cleaners. But have yet to fine anything in forums. I travel cross country each year and have been in very dirty environments. Like my trip last year. I drove through Texas, New Mexico and a part of Arizona ... when somewhere in Texas was on fire and the farmers were plowing for their planting. The debris in my air cleaner was black and mostly blocked it. I have a reusable filter and all I did was take the time to clean it and on the road again. If it was paper, I would be changing it out each time it was plugged, until I was out of the area. It was bad on I40 then.Has anyone used a pre-filter before ?If so, wh…

While in NJ I had my 2005 Ram CTD serviced at the Caldwell, NJ Dodge/jeep/Chrysler dealer. I was told I should replace the Down Tube for $130 every 30,000 miles. Since I didn't see that requirement in my service manual and never heard of it I decided not to do it till I found out more about it. Is this something anyone else knows about or is it a service rip off???

So as we all know the intake air temps get low enough in winter to hinder fuel economy and idle combustion efficiency. I have a winter front the helps out quite a bit, but I think they could stand being a little warmer. I generally block off my home depot CAI in winter to keep snow/moisture from entering the airbox and maybe run a little warmer air. I have been considering adding a 2" deck plate on the engine side of the air box. Close it in the summer when I don't want engine air, and open it in the winter when it's a good thing. I considered a 3" opening because my HD CAI is 3" and the plug would work for both, but not sure I want/need that much hot en…

I have an 05 quad cab that the batteries leak down in. If you are driving it every 3 days no problem but if you let it set a week the battries are all but dead. Cables are good and terminals are clean.

Does anyone know why it seems like rail pressure is lower when the temp is colder? Does the the ECM cheat it back because of sensor readings? Or is there something else going on?
