For about 2-3 months now, my fuel pressure gauge has been real erratic. The needle not staying steady, bouncey and some times cutting out all together. I pulled the connections at the pump under the truck and cleaned the contacts and terminals. That seemed to help for a while. Then it started acting up a couple months ago. I bought a new Walbro pump off Ebay and a new wiring harness from GDP. Richard from GDP doesn't sell his Walbro system any longer, but he still had some leftover harnesses in stock. I've had this stuff for about 6 months now just in case. I keep meaning to take the harness and pump to a friend of mine and have him make it a bit more "weather tight" in …

Made a long weekend road trip this past Friday until today. I had to go to Beardstown, IL to pick up a rifle that I won in a DU raffle 2 weeks ago. From there I went to Springfield, IL to stay the night with friends and hang out for a while Saturday morning. Late Saturday morning I left Springfield for Benton, KY to see the puppies that my dog sired. Spent Saturday night in Benton and left for home about 5:00PM Sunday evening after spending the day with the pups and hanging out with Doug, the owner of the dam that had the pups. I left my house about 10:00AM on Friday with about a half tank of fuel and drove the 60 miles down to my folks house to leave my dog with the…

I am going to start this by saying... I KNOW that color is NOT an indicator of oil quality. My DD (02 Jetta Wagon, GLS 2.0 5 Speed) is about to hit 100K miles, I just bought it at 95K miles so i am doing a little maintenance to it. The OE OCI is 10K miles. The PO ran Castrol Syntec 5w-30 for 10K and changed the filters at 3.5K, 7K, 10K ish for the 60K miles he owned the car. It appears he ran Fram Extra Guards.. not a Fram fan, but still an okay filter for a gasser.. Heck I really can't complain he ran an okay Group III synthetic and changed the filter 3x as often as required So the current oil/filter has 5K on it, but I want to align my 10K OCI with the 10's o…

Well I bought a 6.7 Turbo today, it should be here in a week or so. I got the turbo, manifold, and stock coolant lines. Now to save for the controller.. I will want to do studs first, so it will probably be some time before the VNT goes on, but it was a good deal.Fleece makes the controller and its pretty sweet. Its fully automatic, and include an exhaust brake function. You can custom tune the program to run the VNT like you want, and to limit max boost. Then there is a cab mounted dial for fine tuning the nozzle if you want, so on hwy trips you can open the vanes up to drop boost/DP and increase mileage, or towing heavy you can tighten the vanes a little for faster spoo…

I changed the oil in my 04.5.:stuned: Remember I had that gasket/seal replaced in April???? Well I did one more TP change after the work and sent in an oil sample to Blackstone. I told Blackstone of the work........front cover off, valve cover off, rockers and tappets pulled etc. The analysis wasn't bad, but they thought that with having the engine "apart" that I should change it. So I did. Almost 84,000 miles without a complete oil change!!!!I changed oil brands also. I found a super deal on Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 dino. This is the oil Cummins puts in their engines from the factory. Paid $11.23/gal........so I bought all of them off the shelf!!!! 7 gallons in…

This was a mod I had been wanting to do for a while. Its pretty simple, build this for less than $20 with toilet/plumbing parts. A lot of guys use 4", I went 3" because it fits better and its still almost 80% more air than stock, now we get into filter flow rates, and just what the turbo will need. The stock air intake is good for at least 450rwhp, so this should just help out with a little cooler air at high boost. To start remove the OE air box (which sucked for me as I have a solenoid for my winch attached to it, at that alone took an hour to unhook). The going in and out, top and bottom, find where you want to center the 3" hole, and then mark it and s…

Was coming home from dog training last week. We got done right at sunset. So I'm driving home in the "sorta" dark. You know, that time between sunset and dark where your headlights ain't doing squat!!! Anyhow, on the ride home, it rolled over a "log" in the road!!! It made an terrible racket under the truck, but I didn't think anything more of it until I turned into my drive. EEEEEEEERRRRREEEE!!!!! Bent the snot out of the steering stabilizer!!! Nothing else as far as I can tell!! I tried to take some pix, but none of them were good enough to post to show the bend in the shaft and the kink in the tube of the stabilizer!!! I must've took 12 pix and all of them sucked!!! S…

Well just got back from a round trip vacation to phoenix AZ and then up to lake havasu up the colorado river around lake mead and over to Lake Powell and back through the mountains of colorado and back home. 9 states in 8 days. Smarty jr on level 3 performance entire trip. followed all speed limits within 3-4 mph most times. 3620 miles total 10 fill ups with schaeffers soy shiel fuel additive every tank. worst tank was 16.8 don't know why it was so low. best tank was 20.2. overall average came in at 19.1 mpg which made me a happy camper. every tank was hand calculated. temps averaged in the upper 80's to 90's most of the tr…

Just got home from a 3700 mile vacation with my 05 and It has an annoying issue with the cruise control that I have never noticed before. It will out of the blue just kick out. no rhyme or reason. sometimes it will go almost an entire day and only do it once and the next day it will kick out evey 10 miles and then just come out of it. It doesn't turn off or loose memory it just cancels like i stepped on the brake. if I hit resume its back to normal. Brake pedal is up all the way and the p-brake pedal is up also as I checked that the first time it happened. It is so extremelly intermittANT that it would be a hard one to figure out I think. Road conditions and temp did not s…

I recently installed a coolant filter, and based on what I thought, and was told, at the time I plumbed it the way I did. I have the "pressure" coming from the head, and the "return" going to the block. I also recently realized that the flow of coolant is from the block, thru the head, and back to the pump, or radiator... So I am wondering if my filter is filtering backwords? So can anyone help confirm or deny this? Is the pressure in the head or the block greater? Thanks
