I have a exhaust question. I bought a MBRP 4" system for my truck in my Sig, back in May of this year. I am just now getting around to putting in on today. I put everything on and it went to pretty fast. Before I tightened down the clamps and hangers, I wanted to check the firewall to down pipe clearance, to see if it needed to be moved or pivoted. There is a 1/8" at best. Here are three pics of the down pipe. The two from the top look like it is sitting right up against the firewall pad, but when you look at it from from a different angle like in the 3rd pic you can see there is a "LITTLE" bit of clearance, about a 1/8" at best. I put a MBRP on my last truck (6/7 years a…

Hey all, I've been having slow start on my 99 cummins and I read up about replacing the starter contacts and plunger. I got my parts in today and went to install them. When I took off the starter I noticed the smaller wire that was connecting to it was extremely loose. It was held on just by 1 wire and was hanging out of the starter. I accidentally broke it off trying to remove the nut that held the wire on to it. I attached photos of what I am talking about. Is there two wires that it connects too? Am I able to fix it, or am I better off purchasing a new starter? The pictures are here: http://imgur.com/a/iRc8B

  4. 1999 Dodge 2500, 24Valve, 4x4, Automatic Transmission, I have dropped the transmission pan to do an oil and filter change. Got all the oil drained out and filter removed. I then proceed to adjust the rear band. I am new the adjusting bands, but consider my self a good mechanic(until now), So I back off the tension nut. set the torque wrench to 72 lbs. Starting turning. It getting really tight and then the adjusting screw starts to strip, so I stop. I have realized that I have the wrench on 72 FOOT pounds not INCH pounds!:banghead::banghead::banghead:. I only got to about 30ft pounds when it striped. After about two hours of trying I have got the adjusting screw removed. I…

  8. My filter canister is leaking, and am going to replace the o-ring in the heater element hoping that will fix it. But, if that's not it, I'm afraid the canister might be cracked at the very top on the aft side. So my question is, how important is the fuel heater? My choices for getting rid of the stock canister are the $360 kit from Rich at Glacier Diesel, which includes the fuel heater and WIF sensor, the non-heated version of that kit for $209, or the non-heated spin-on kit from Glacier for $150. I'm just looking for advice on the need for a fuel heater. I do live in Northern AZ, and it does get rather cold here in the winter. Thanks for the advice in advance. I like th…

I know I need a full rebuild but can't afford it now, is it possible upgrading piece by piece? I have awful TC shudder and am thinking of just replacing the TC for now or do I need a VB and upgraded internals too? And do I need to triple disc for 450-500 HP?

  10. Hi Guys,I am attempting to unplug the electrical connectionplug for the MAP sensor and I can't get the darn thing to move.I see (with the use of a mirror) two red pieces down near the brass part of the MAP sensor - on the plug body. Are these supposed to be pushed to release or pulled to release ?I cannot for the life of me figure out how it comes off (at 69 I'm getting slow and old eh!). It is a pain as there isn't a lot of room to work in to start with. While I am on the subject of electrical connectors - is the IAT the same or a different type to unlock and remove ?Sheesh, why does Dodge have to be different to everyone else re connectors? I'm not an electrician so my e…

I had the new PCM flashed yesterday at the dealer, he said everything checks out good, gauge check,PCM flash etc... drive home, all is well. Start the truck this morning to go to work....NO GAUGES:banghead:, half-way to work they come on again! 3 miles from work...off they go. I did notice something today during all this, when the gauges start to go dead the air-bag light comes on first, then I lose the speedo, then the tach, then you get the bell and the no bus code appears and all is lost. Then the transmission starts to act a little weird, you will be sitting still at a stop sign and all of a sudden it will try to learch forward, and if it acts like that, when you turn h…

I have an 01 24 valve, 193k, 6spd, 4" straight pipe, quadzilla, airdog 100. Decided to replace my leaking/lots and lots of play gear box. Did the gear box, pump, and hoses, had to move my truck out of the garage without hoses hooked up to gearbox (not the smartest I know) fired it up real quick pulled it out and shut it off. Now it runs really rough but I can hear my alt kick in/up and it smooths out then idles rough again. Starts fine but have quite a few codes, P0500, P0463, P0460, P1693, P0523, P0238, P0236, P1475, P1688 P1693. My theory is I just got lucky and lost the ECM while doing other repairs??? Will check all grounds in the morning and will test alt as well. T…

  13. I know most of you use a BHF but this question is about the stock filter. I bought a Amsoil air filter 8000 miles back. Supposed to last 100k if blown out every 25k. Supposed to be made with some super fiber. My problem is at 8000 miles the restriction gage pops 65% plugged non towing. The filter is CLEAN! no dirt to speak of on it at all. I am confused.?????

  14. For starters Ive done a lot of reading and testing different parts. Im at a stand still and I dont want to be a parts changer..I bought a 02 3500 4x4 6 speed cummins 4.10 gears with 270k miles a week ago. All stock except for k&n intake and straight piped. I am experiencing a few problems. I noticed that the heat was barly warm. With a hint of antifreeze smell with blower on and selected on warm. So first problem is heater core. Ive driven the truck around town 55-60 mph. Coolant temp stays around 190 degrees. Once I hit the interstate at 70-75 with the 4.10 gears im turning about 2300-2400 rpm. The coolant temp starts to climb as the speed increase. Upwards of 2…

So the supposed HX35 I bought ended up being a WH1C. For all purposes it seems to be an HX35, other than drilling and tapping for a boost elbow, is this a "bolt-on" swap? It has 5 bolt holes in the rear so I think I can reuse my HY35 exhaust adapter? Has anyone done this?

Fellas, what do you think a 5600 6 spd out of an 01 4X4 would be worth for parts? Supposedley the complete transmission minus the 1 3/8 shaft. Story i'm getting is they parted the tranny so they could get the big shaft vs the small one they currently had. Only issue I have with that story is going from the 1 1/4 to the 1 3/8, wouldn't everything else be different inside?

l had dead 2 month old batteries in my 2001. Read through threads on dead batterieshere and found info on IOD fuse #12 in junction box.The shop manual said to disconnect both batteries, connect a amp meter between the ground terminal and ground wire - keeping it connected and wait for 3 minutes then check the fuses and relays. The only drain l had was threw the IOD fuse #12 in the junction box I had a 246 mamp drain threw it. Shop manual said should be less than 30. Used shop manual wiring diagram to narrow it down to lights common to that fuse. It was the glove box light. Disconnected it and the amp draw dropped to 1.64 mamps. :)

  18. My '01 truck is pretty much stock with the exception of the Superchip Cortex set on "performance tow". 4.10 gears, 31" tires, auto. I pull a trailer occasionally and travel in the Rockies, usually less that 8000#'s. I notice the egt's start creeping up to the 1100 degree mark or slightly higher unless I let off some on a long pull. I have read on here that 1100 is reaching the limit. I am old enough now that I don't drive it like I stole it, but do not want to damage anything because I plan on keeping this truck a long time. I am also hesitant to make any changes in the programmer settings because I am afraid I will screw something up. Are these temps normal? Am I causin…

I need to replace my bummed ECM and got a good deal on a 2000 model. I have a 98.5. The seller, of course, tells me that it will work. After looking through the forums I hear both that it will and won't work. Does anyone have any first hand experience success or failure?!

  20. I'm finally picking up an HX35 off a 96', doing the HY to HX swap, and was wondering what RPM the HX starts to spool? My HY seems to start at around 1700 or sooner and I'm hoping the HX isn't going to be laggy with my setup. Thanks
