Drop in injectors

What do you guys know about the 100 or 150 hp injectors, I want to hear the good, bad or indifferent opinions on them.  Cost, and how well they perform.  I'm looking for more power in my truck, this 7000 lb tavel trailer is really hard to pull up hills especially when some idiot decides to drive 10 mph under the speed lmit right in front of me and I loose all my momentium and rpm's.

So my truck is completely stock except the K&N air filter.  I just had the Auto tranny serviced and the guy at the shop said it looks really good.  One of the problems is I don't have the money to put into this thing right now.  Our whole summer is already filled with activities that cost me money.  LOL 

 

If you put injectors in your truck with a stock tranny you can pretty much say goodbye to that tranny, especially 100s or over. Not to mention if you have an HY35, as stated it can't handle upgrades. Unless your injectors are bad, start with a programmer, edge comp/EZ and play nice. I had an HY35, stock tranny with +60 HP injectors and an edge EZ and neither the turbo nor tranny liked the added power. A "budget" upgrade would be genuine Bosch rv275s ($400ish) and a used HX35 ($200-300). Again, your turbo and tranny are your limiting factors.

      deej,  I'm sorry if your still confused with all the info threw at you at once, which is great information, your are in good company for Learning what you can and can't do with your truck and still expect it to last. you will find that  these Guys here "ACTUALLY USE" there trucks so what ever they tell you is Real world information learned from personal experience. The single best investment for you at this point is GAUGES .  I cannot emphasize enough the need for GAUGES. they tell you what your truck is doing and why it's doing it.   Even without power upgrades, gauges are a must to be able to troubleshoot a diesel engine of any make.

      If you haven't installed gauges, that needs to be first.

     

        Now, as it has already been said, if your doing any Towing or hauling you really need to forget about any power upgrades such as injectors or boxes/programmers unless your just cruising around town and wanna blow some smoke then you can get away with some big nozzles and programmers. 

     

       if you look at my signature you'll see i had bout the same original setup as you, 24Valve VP, Auto, 354 gears. I didn't adhere to the good advise given to me here. instead i added a edge juice w/attitude then injectors. then i installed aEGT probe in the manifold so my EGT gauge would work on the edge juice readout (edge juice has gauges built in).. thats when i knew i had messed up, EGT Temps were as high as 13-1400 without the wiretap on the pump. then i started noticing TC issues like slipping when rolling out into the hammer lane to pass, got to where i unhooked the edge just to try and buy some time,..BUT after about 10,000miles with very little heavy lifting, it bit the dust..

        :smart: So.. you could follow my *** backwards protocol, or start with GAUGES and trans, upgrades.  These guys here can tell you how to MOD your transmission to be worry free and reliable without spending a small fortune ...

    just ask around or search the articles

    I'm running 5x3 on my Edge Comp while towing my RV or daily driving. :burnout:  The only time I turn it down is to gain control on slick ground be it mud or ice.

    What I'm running for Gauges... ISSPro EV2's. Pretty nice but also pretty pricey...

    :tongue: Yep.... me to......NOW.....  try that crap with stock autotrans and HY35 :cookoo:  :cookoo:

    Not much control of the CUMINS power curve with 47RE AUTO...IT has a mind of its own :shrug:

    thought i saw one of the vendors on here now offering the gauges in a kit with A piller mount complete but can't remember which one

    Thanks, thats what I need to do then.  Gauges....I'll do some searching on here.

    This summer maybe... :ashamed: I want to get a new set of banner sticker going for the windshield but I just need time to finish things. Turn down the Edge Comp naw... As for the gauges I took the challenge of the electric gauges to see if I can keep fuel pressure gauges from blowing senders. So far so good and hold good. I've got a design set up with Eric at Vulcan Performance on the sender brackets. So a solution is in the future. Another feature is the gauges are programmable.

    The problem is the pillars on these trucks already create blind spots, thos gauges look like they make it worse.  Are there othere location options?

    Not as bad as you think. If I shot a picture from the driver eye angle there width is no different.

    Oh ok thats good to know, are they hard to hook up?  You have to drill and tap a couple of things right?

    I'll have to post up a picture of my new gauge setup for controlling the he351ve.  Pretty nifty, and it sits perfectly in a "new" crack in my dash.
