On some start ups it will blow some white/blue haze (smells like oil) smoke for a few seconds as the EGT rises.  Also, if I sit and idle for extended periods, like 5min, when i continue driving it will blow the same color smoke as soon as my egt rises above 500-600.  Once it burns the oil out, it doesn't come back, and the truck runs the same smoking or not.

The truck runs fine, and uses some oil, but not much... Mabe a quart every 2500 miles at the most.  i haven't actually measured it.

I am wondering if I am getting excessive oil going down my exhaust valves, and coating the exhaust... either from worn guides or worn seals.

I am going to have the rockers off soon for a head stud install, does it make sense to you guys to change the seals as well?

And anybody have a good source for a complete Injector & Crossover O ring and valve seal kit? I want to change the O rings as they should be set and are more likely to leak if reused.

--- Really starting to wonder if the smoke from my truck is valve leak also ......... not sure as its more grey white ........ than dark/blue....... will get a compression and leak down going (thanks TFAORO) .... next couple weeks ...... and go from there.

If the valve guides are worn out, what does one do from there? Full head job? I have went through 2 sets of valve seals in about 100k miles and this set is starting to leak some oil too. The guy I bought the truck from had said the head was just gone through before I bought it. Apparently whoever did the work didnt know what they were doing...

Yep.  At that point, it will likely be some new guides and probably some new valves.  I would like to have the head off to do a gasket match port cleanup and do a valve job.... but it runs fine now and the start up smoke doesn't bother me.

At the moment my oil consumption is about a quart every 1000 miles. It doesnt leak on the ground anywhere. It was going through about this much oil before i had the last set of valve seals in. After the new seals i was only going through about a quart every 8000 miles. Guess its time for a head job. Any idea how much a thorough job costs?

My full head job was $1,300 but that included hardened exhaust seats and an O ring job. I guess it depends on how bad yours is but I would say a grand would be a safe overshoot.
