Hi all,

ive been trying for a few months now to get my scanguage calibrated. I followed all instructions to the letter, as far as I can tell, but many fill ups later I was still having to adjust the offset percentage by around 100%. I tried messing with diesel a and diesel b today on the drive to work to see if it changed the gph, but it was really hard to tell. However, most of the time it seems like the gph reading is way lower than it should be. Even beyond the typical 0 at idle. Is it possible that my truck is incorrectly reporting fuel consumption? Is there any way to test or calibrate that? Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I love the scanguage for its other features but I would really like to be able to see accurate mpg data....

  • Mpg is 99% controlled by your right foot.

  • yep both oval the 01 sensor is the commonly used one.  Typically if you buy a 02 sensor you actually get an 01 sensor with a pigtail.

If I wasn't already trading my comp for a smarty locally.. I would have traded with you. What is it with the scan gauge that cannot be calibrated?

That's a shame, let me know if anything falls through. That would be perfect! Apparently the smarty messes with the ecm fuel tables and so the truck does not accurately report fuel consumption.

Lol I just want to be able to use the fuel consumption monitoring features on the scanguage. Plus I've also been wanting to have a tuner I can adjust on the fly.

Missing much how?

You are not looking to wire tap and even suggested going less on injectors. You want to switch from the Smarty to an Edge so you can micro manage and have the ability to switch on the fly. You are basically going to have the same power as what you have now... I don't think you will be doing a whole lot of switching on the fly.. unless you tapped the pump.

Pretty much. Basically I would just like the switching on the fly so I can drive on economy normally but easily have power when I want it. Not mega power, just a little get up and go.

When I first got the truck I pretty much tried everything. Normally I run SW 1, but once in a while I put it on SW 5 to have a little fun.

Yes between all the different combinations I tried I wouldn't say the differences are extreme. 9 was pretty intense though. Any throttle would result in my truck bellowing smoke like a freight train lol

tranny isn't quite stock....I have a valair single disc organic rated for 400hp and 900 ft lbs. plus the updated fifth gear nut and retainer from active trans but that's it.

I guess it's the difference of a manual over an auto.. on 9 with torque set to 2, timing 2 and duration 2.. I get a little puff at heavy acceleraration. Or this 2K turbo. I hardly get any smoke with the comp on 5x5 either....

Oh yeah possibly. I definitely have no problems getting it to smoke. even on 5 it will smoke good if I step on it a little. I also have 75hp injectors though...

Thanks! I'm trying to take my time and make an informed decision. I don't think I'll regret it. The smarty has way more than I need so I think I'll be ok.

Just for information value. With Edge Products its backwards the higher the level thee better the economy. It's not like Smarty where you turn it down. So with like my Edge Comp even with the wire tap I see at least 3 MPG gain on level 5 (120 HP) where it barely 1 MPG on level 1 (40 HP).

That's pretty awesome how does that work? Would that be the same for the EZ then? Like if I were to get an older one that you cant switch on the fly and just turn it all the way up, I'd see the best mileage that way?

  • Author

Well yes I know that lol. But what I'm asking is what Mike said about the comp the same for the EZ? And how does edge do that? Also, do you guys think I would hurt anything running the older style EZ on its highest setting all the time? I just don't want to end up getting less mpgs than I can with the smarty basically...I have a friend who would sell me an older EZ without the toggle for $200....is that a good price?
