I had a friend awhile back that didn't purchase anything just tapped into somthing and his gauges dim with factory lighting in his 97 truck. Mine is 99 but figure its same. I can't get ahold of him and ready to hook it up today. Thanks

I used #14 on the fuse block. Used a male connector and hooked it in with the fuse and works just fine.

I just used a test light on back of the head light switch to find the gauge lights wire I found the hot ones with switch on and dimmed down to see if my test light dimmed and found it that way and positapped into it right at the switch. Most places tell you to tap into the ashtray light but I didn't want 4 extra feet of wiring under the dash when I only needed a foot.

That is the best way to do this. Use a test light or volt meter and probe the wires on the back of the light switch.
