Any reason not to stick with my OEM Y steering?

MOOG replacement parts are $217 to my door, and I don't need a new stabilizer (less than 40K on a Bilstien 5100), or pitman arm.

T steering appears to be $340+ the pitman arm and stabilizer for OEM and maybe $75 less for MOOG.

I have 125K on my OEM steering and it's never given me DW or any issues. I do plenty of towing/dirt road driving, etc... not a single complaint other than it's starting to wonder a little now.

Will MOOG last as long as OEM?

I've also been told to look at NAPA parts, which I generally HATE buying, and they are just under 2x the cost of MOOG. Generally price and quality are directly correlated but most the online reviews put MOOG and NAPA in the same quality/longevity bin. Any direct experiences here?

Thanks

  • For 3d gen, i really dont know.  My moogs also sucked.  I have napa pro sitting on my shelf.   Ball joints should last more than 30k of highway driving.

  • Moog has been crap for over 10 years. Advertising by the company is the only reason you still see them around.   Why not the 09+ steering? Can be had for $240 to the door if you look hard en

  • Can't get OEM quality to the door for that low and if I am going to buy a new steering stabilizer I may as well get OEM quality. I would also need a new pitman arm so it's about 450+ for the T type. T

Ouuccchhhh them things sure have jumped up in price. Had someone buy on last year off amazon for $240 shipped to their door. Looks like those deals are done.

I thought I read that there was a fire-sale on the previous editions a while back. The only one I would run is the one with the alignment pin.

I finally got around to installing the steering that has been in the shop for a few months, and the new track bar bushings. The alignment is done and I'll get some miles on it this next week.

Which track bar bushing did you use? I am due for a new drag link and either different track bar bushings or a new track bar. I did Lukes links track bar bushings from Genos over a year ago and they are junk, the axle moves about 1/2 inch side to side and then it bangs at steer lock while doing short slow speed maneuvering when the axle decides to snap side to side. The passenger side track bar bushing has a ton of movement in it. i have even taken it out to see if the bolt and bushing match size which they do but the bushing itself is too soft and allows for a ton of side to side movement, the driver side moves a bit but nothing in comparison to the pass side.

Those are 3 piece like Lukes links, I think that's why they have play they don't seat as tight as the press in or the one piece energy suspension bushings.

I am on the fence of going back in with OEM style bushings or energy suspension.
