I purchased the high idle kit from this website, i installed it and it idled up to 1200 for about a minute then went back to normal operating idle, i tried turning truck off an reatarting it and it wont high idle, on my edge jwa monitor it shows the correct intake temp, only thing i noticed is the throttle position flashes 1% then back to 0%, could this be affecting it?

i activated the settings in the computer by using a smarty touch

Please review the TSB that covers OEM high idle functions

Triggers for disabling high idle are

Both features will automatically disable when one of the following occurs:

1. The Automatic Transmission is placed in gear (forward or reverse) or,
2. The Service Brake pedal is depressed or,
3. Throttle position is greater than 0% or,
4. Vehicle Speed is greater than 0 mph or,
5. Coolant Temperature is greater than 79°C (175°F).

according to the tsb if the ecm see's tps increase above %0 then high idle will cancel.

You will have to troubleshoot your apps sensor to know if it is on it's way out or if it just needs to be recalibrated.

Did you adjust the APPS sensor for voltage before? I'm just checking some people do APPS sensor adjustments attempting to resolve other issues and end up creating a new issue because the voltage adjustment should never be made.

i have never touched the apps, i believe its original as the truck only has 120xxx on it,

i have no dead pedal in it but i can try and reset the apps tomorrow

  • Owner

Resetting will most likely not fix the problem. The APPS reset just programs the span from low volt to high volt of the sensor. What controls the canceling in the APPS IVS (Idle Validation Switches). On the stock APPS the IVS is controlled by a logic circuit which toggles the idle validation switches when voltage rises or falls below the stated voltage on the tag. So I'm going to bet most likely the sensor is getting tired.

Alright ill try reset and if that doesnt work i will order a sensor,

Thank you for your help, i will keep updated

Alright so i reset the apps for giggles to see if it would work, it did not, so should i order a new apps or is there anything else i should do? I appriciate the help alot

Dumb idea...

Unplug the APPS then run the rest again. I know it will throw an error code and trip the CEL but you'll know if the APPS is the cause. It should default to idle mode and then the high idle should engage. Crazy idea but it might work.

Alright i will try that in the morning,  lol its not a dumb idea if it works

I will deffinetly be ordering from you guys if it ends up being the problem,

Alright so i unplugged the apps an then started it, edge jwa monitor shows 0% on throttle position, i let it idle for 3-4 mins and it didnt idle higher, i disconnected the batteries and i will try again after work

@Mopar1973Man   I am betting the ecm needs to see IVS trigger before it will high idle

Alright i will try a new apps and see what that does

If you're still using factory apps I would change it out just to be safe, sooner or later factory one will give you a headache anyway.

Out of curiousity could it be the alternator outputting ac noise? I have never tested it, can i just pull the alternator fuse to see if that cures it?

No your issues are %100 related to your TPS reading %1 randomly at idle.

you might still have ac noise, but it is not causing this issue.

Alright so i installed the new timbo apps and i am still having the same problem, anything else i should take a look at?
