One of my rear speakers quit working. Before I condemn it I would like to make sure it is not something else. I put my meter across the 2 wires and got about .5V. Part of me thinks it should be 12V and part thinks speaker voltage is variable and increases with volume. Which part of me is right? Or am I all wrong?

The speakers in the front doors have amps built on, if you replace with other speakers I believe you have to reuse the amps.  I did on my 99

do you have another speaker you can hook up to test? yes the Voltage changes with volume.

if your getting voltage then i'd tend to think the power is there, so another speaker, even house speaker can work.

Thanks for the reply. I'll see if I can dig up another speaker to try.

Good to know. The one in question is in the rear door. Once it warms up a little I'll have to pull it out and look a little closer.

One of my rear speakers quit, the wire that runs from the body into the door was broke.  Open the rear door, pull back the rubber boot and look for a break.  With as much flex and the age it will get brittle and break.

That's what was wrong with the other one. Fixed that and it works. Now the one in question has the wire intact and has around half a vlt flowing through it. Thanks for the reply though. That is definitely something to look for :thumbup2:.
