Finally put a Bhaf on the truck, but now with straight pipe 4” (outlet currently under the truck, no tip), no silencer ring (does the ring create any congestion?) and a bhaf, it is just getting too loud.  Contemplating whether I need just a muffler, just a resonator, a combo resonator/turbo (Jones/aeroturbine) or a separate resonator (under the cab) and a big muffler further back.

thoughts/experience?

  • I find adding a second turbo muffles a straight piped exhaust quite nicely.

  • I started with a M085171 40" Donaldson. It's a straight thru design that sounds great, but the exhaust brake whistle was too loud so I added an OEM resonator from a mega-cab truck. Same tone, just les

I have a Magnaflow 4" without a muffler.  I blanketed (not wrapped) the first 6 feet about 1 foot past the turbo to stop radiant heat to the transmission.  I know its louder on the outside but I'm surprised how quiet it is inside the cab.  The only time I think the noise is getting up there is when I'm towing really heavy and thats more hard working motor noise than exhaust.  Maybe someday I'll try a FTE but I'm in no hurry to spend the money and get things fit right.
