Have a late 02 ran 2500. Cummins automatic 4x4. Truck has a issue believed to be failed MAP sensor. Tried two different scan tools and neither connect to the Engine.

 

I can communicate with PCM and watch data on the scanner. It wont let me communicate and watch data on the Engine side. I can check engine DTCs but once I hit DATA DISPLAY it says no communication.

 

Have checked and all fuses, and wiring appears to be perfect based on a quick visual inspection. Have not pulled out the DMM yet to check. Engine starts, truck runs. OBDII has power. Anyone ran into this issue before?

I have two scanners that I use and on will give me codes with live data from the ECM and the other will only give me codes with no live data.  I think it's the protocol set up between the scanner and the Cummins ECM.

I dont believe i have had this issue on any other truck, yet. I can watch data on the transmission side. I can check and clear engine codes. Not able to see engine data due to "no communication". It wont allow me to access functions such as disabling injectors, wait to start light, ect. 

 

Also not able to get into the cluster either. 

 

Same issue with two different scan tools.

 

Was hoping someone has ran into this issue before i spend all morning checking wiring and it be something simple.

What are you using to watch data? 

98.5 24v 4x4 auto.... snap on brick and a 2019 snap on modis ultra, I can view engine data/trans/abs  and some body stuff. Both do not connect every time due to a poor connection at the OBD port, but the modis power led is on, I just wriggle the lead and try again. 

Any luck fixing this issue? Having the same one myself

I'm having the same issue and trying to work thru it with Snap-On.

It has the appearance of being a software issue specific to the 2002 Dodge Diesels. Haven't been able to verify if it affects the 2002 Dodge Gas (as of yet). Same results with Modis Edge 19.4, Ethos Edge 20.2 and the new Apollo D9 20.4

I'm able to connect and view ecm data with my Modis (15.4). 

I'm able to to access and delete DTC's, as well as OBD data with my Modis Ultra (19.2 / 19.4), but not ecm data.

The other interesting thing is even though I select MT w/AC, I'm seeing stuff on the screen related to automatics.

I've also started a thread at Snap-On diagnostics forums "2002 Dodge Ram Diesel Won't Connect".

If you look at the wire map above those wires need to be good shape. I'm currently trying to fix my OBDII plug. I wanted to capture some data for another gent but my port is no longer connecting to Innova tool I've got or any tool. Last time it was one wire push out for the SCI bus.

I'm able to access ECM data with my Modis 15.4 {always keep a backup}.

I've also pulled out the old MTG2500 and am able to access ECM data.

So the question is what Snap-On software version still worked properly (16.2 to 18.4)?

It took a bit of doing, but I'm back. Thanks for the assistance Mike.

Worked the problem with my local SO Dealer, SO Forums Administrator and the SO Development Team.

All indications at this point are that it only affected the 2002 Dodge Cummins, but until I can get my hands onto a 2002 Gas job, that is the assumption.

The result is that 18.2 worked and 18.4 thru to 20.2 were unable to connect, regardless of the platform.
Seems that there was a glitch in the Dodge data base and will be corrected in the 21.4 release.
Now all they have to do is come up with a patch, for the masses 18.4 thru 21.2

 

I think my SO Modis is 18.4 but both my trucks are 98 and my brother has a gas 2000 so no problem for me and at £600 + for a SO update I as yet don't need to jump TF
