My name is Mace.

I'm a looong time lurker on here. Before here I was active on contributions for Dave Fritz’s site before it disappeared. I’ve been following 2nd gens since they debuted. I bought mine new in 01’ and still rock it!

I recently deleted my fb association with 2nd Gen Cummins as it’s not technical enough for me. I thrive on modifications that make our trucks more competitive & mechanically modern. The W-T mods I discovered here and installed sealed the deal to jump ship.

I’ve completed some neat modifications on my truck I’m happy to share. Here’s a couple:

• Engine side APPS delete (complete electronic pedal - no cable/bellcrank)

• Vacuum/ps pump delete to midrange pump only/remote reservoir setup

• Electric vacuum pump (Super Duty) replacement for above mod.

• Quad headlights with upgraded relay harnesses with DRL-1 module so I can maintain my drl requirement (I’m Canadian)

Anyways, hope to sponge as much info as I can. If I can help give me a shout.

Cheers!

I’m not sure how many rotational degrees it is but it worked the same as the old bellcrank setup. I have full throttle 0-100% when I tested it out of the truck.

I set up my OEM throttle assembly complete with the throttle cable operational for a bench test.  It turns out that although the OEM APPS shaft rotates 45°, the actual foot throttle rotation is about 20° due to the different lever length combinations along the way.  So, that would be much more in alignment with the replacement bellcrank, which has a 20° sweep.  I was overthinking it, as usual.  I will now proceed with using the replacement bell crank assembly.

I completed my project yesterday.  I was successful.  Before I go into detail, @Doubletrouble, do you get an obnoxious rattly sound transmitted from the engine to inside the cab via the throttle?  My truck has always been that way since new.  I have a friend who has a '99 truck  with a 6 spd since new and he says his is that way, too.

@Mace, was yours that way before you relocated the APPS?

Doubletrouble, I'll wait 'til you finish your popcorn...,

Not that I noticed but now I want to put my head under the dash with her running and see. Hmmm

I just assumed all the noises were common on a diesel. I've been drive big diesel trucks fir a long time but my '01 is my first diesel pickup.

If you are experiencing the noise that I am referring to, you will not need to put  your head under the dash.  My noise is most noticeable at highway speed and the noise is being directly transmitted through the throttle cable and the throttle pedal acts as a speaker.  I can set the cruise control and remove my foot from the throttle and the noise will either subside, or sometimes be worse.  Other times its works the opposite way, but it is there to some degree all of the time.  Very annoying..., well, actually, not annoying any more!

I never noticed that noise. I mean we pretty much drive farm tractors with rocket ship engines. I was just happy if it started in the morning :)

Interesting that you don't have the noise issue.

I started a new thread on why, where, and how I re-located the APPS throttle assembly.

Awesome! Thanks for posting that John.

On the noise you speak of, I'm gonna say I don't have it or at least I never noticed it. They're are several noises while driving I suppose, all adding into the harmony that is a 2nd gen 24v cummins. Nothing ever really jumped out at me though, especially anything resonating from the fuel pedal area.

I was just making plans to reseal my OEM vacuum pump and replace PS pump. Glad I found this. Thanks for sharing fellas , I’ll share when in done
