Does anyone know what size vacuum line it is that runs across the back of the valve cover to the elbow that goes into the firewall. I broke mine in the process of adjusting valves and removing the heater hoses from the heater core. Looking to replace it with a rubber hose possibly. Need to know what size to use to accomplish that. Thanks -

I measured 0.165" O.D. which is nothing standard so probably is 3/16" line (probably shrunk on mine over time, 3/16 is .1875"). Using rubber hose is not advised with a vacuum line because it will suck it flat. I *think* fuel line rated rubber hose is designed to not collapse though, so that might work.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement line for that? If the rubber line may not be advised, I should see if I can get a replacement for that part.

I think I would just go into NAPA and tell them what you need. Tell them you are using it as a vacuum line.. Rubber hoses will work if they are the right stuff. The plastic vacuum line might be harder to find.

I think I will bring that line into the parts store and see if they can get me something that will work. That plastic line was pretty brittle after the heat and cool cycles. I barely hit the line, and it broke. Thanks for the help.

Get yourself a oil pressure line kit. It is only a few bucks and that plastic is about the same size. It comes in 6" length. If it is to curly slide a rubber windshield washer hose on it,that way it wont kink when you bend it.

I went down to the local hardware store and bought a 6 foot length of clear vinyl tubing for the 96 Dodge and replace all the plastic tubing with vinyl tubing... Worked good so far no problems with sucking flat either.

I took the curly nylon hose and hung it from a rafter with a big master pad lock on the other end for a day and it straightened it out very nicely.

Went to Napa, and they had some windshield wiper hose that works great. It is 5/32" hose.
