I think I am in trouble!

Have an old JD tractor, model 1050. Broke the housing (CH19231, which is a sub for CH 19158), non repairable.:cry: Went to the local JD here and they said the part is obsolete! Anyone have one just taking up shelf space? :lmao: Anyone know of a JD junkyard by chance? I am going to post on the tractor forum as well.

They had the part! Pricey! But, gotta have it! Emailed 7 junkyards that said they were parting out the same tractor. No one had one!

Tried at the JD dealer and this website. Part is obsolete from the dealer. Thanks for the info.

Glad it worked out. I think I have a service manual for that tractor if you need it.

Got all of the parts ordered for my repair. Then the JD man calls and says the steering valve is no longer orderable! :cry: You cannot take it apart. It has an internal snap ring. Spent the day trying to find a part on the internet. Part was made by Cessna. The airplane manufacturer! No luck trying to get thru with Cessna suppliers. Contacted the local NAPA here and they are going to send the part tp Portland to see if they can find a similar part. :pray:

Well, no luck on the replacement for the steering valve. Had one junk yard call and say they had one then the next day they said they couldn't sell it separately! :mad: So I ended up using a piece of all thread and put 2 large couplers on it for strength and made the tractor into a manual steering tractor! Really not that bad of a fix!

Not sure if this will help or not but I just got some info if you want to keep your power steering. The not available part, the last item on the parts breakdown page with no key #, which is AM101647 (sub for AR92472) was a complete power steering assy. to install on a tractor that came with manual steering. If all you need is the steering valve, key # 20, the part # should be AM35449 and is available for $736.70. [ATTACH]4000[/ATTACH]

That is the part #. How come you can find one and I check all over the web and can't find one? Are you sure it is still available?That is a little pricey for a 25+ year old tractor! I am looking at getting another tractor. After this accident, There were quite a few parts that were no longer available. Even minor ones that were just a gasket! Going to weigh all the options! Thanks for your help!

It's called designed obsolessence. Nobody makes anything now that is designed to work forever. Too many people needing jobs. Too many companies needing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. The older generation Deeres still have good parts availability. There were more made, because there were more farms then. A nice 2N, 8N, 9N ford would do the same work as your current JD 1050 and could be had for about what your going to pay just for the parts to fix yours. That particular tractor was manufactured in Germany, so you may have more luck searching for the part in Europe.Deere still has the best support for the older tractors, but like the old advertisment said "Nothing runs like a Deere" Nothing costs like one either.goto yesterdaystractor.comAnd post in the tractor talk forum and the JD forum. There are several people there living in Europe, including some Ex-pats working over there for uncle suger.

My JD parts budget is around $50k/year and the parts guys go the extra mile to take care of me. They told me there are 17 sitting on a shelf somewhere. Call 315-687-3309, press 1 for parts and ask for Rob. He has forgotten more about JD parts than I'll ever know. http://www.cazenoviaequipment.com/chittenango.htm He has a contact somewhere, in Conn. I think, that has warehouses full of new old stock. When dealers go out of business, or decide to sell parts that haven't sold, this company buys up everything they can get a hold of and put it on a shelf.

    If there are 17 on a shelf somewhere they are keeping them a secret! I tried everyway I could on google to find one! Part #, casting #, description, you name it! That website that you listed never showed up in all of my parts searvhing! Thanks for the info! I will contact him when it settles down in the vineyard. Lots of work to do for the next month. Gotta get it done today cause the next day is to late!

    I guess it is kind of a secret. He uses a website, something like parts deopt.com, and they only sell to dealers. He did say that anyone can look up parts to see what is available but only a dealer can buy. If I can get the link, I'll post it. The site works because he found a good many parts for my 1972 JD 110 garden tractor and old attachments. Most of those parts were supposed to be gone 15 years ago.
