Took my truck in for new tires, the dealer smashed the caliper when beating the wheels off, and now wants me to pay him $1400 for a brake job.

Hit post too quickly. Kicker is, he said the "brakes fell off the truck in the parking lot as we were driving it into the bay"

Ummmm. why were they "Beating" ur wheels off? and $1400??? Really that much?!? umm id say there trying to scam you...

I've had to beat the wheels off the hubs on my trucks more than once.. It's not really something new ;)Sometimes they just stick from time/corrosion on the hub...

Well if they had to beat them off they should have hit from the front side of the wheel nothing but dead air there. I've never had to beat wheels off on any of my 3 dodges. Must be a northern thing.. :thumbup2:

"my" method is to use a big dead blow hammer and whail on the sidewall of the tire...

I've had mine hang up a time or two but a swift kick the tire usually breraks it free. But $1,400 bucks for a brake job are you kidding me? It only cost me a whole $110 bucks to do my first brake job at 185K miles. The $110 bucks was the brake pads all the way around and new seal and boots for the callipers all the way around. Full rebuild the callipers replace the pads and then within that I paid a friend $40 bucks to turn all four rotors.Geez... The labor rate must high...
