This looks like a pretty well organized community for cummins freaks. I'm currently rebuilding a '05 5.9CR that lost the #1 injector and took the rings and sleeve with it. About ready to start re-assembly, as soon as I figure out if the machine shop made a mistake.

Just wanted to add, that if anyone needs pictures of disassembled engine components, now would be the time to ask.

Welcome to the fam Rob. If you can get pics, post them, carbage and all.:thumbup2:

carbage? haha if you mean carnage I have some pretty neat pictures from a 2000 24v that fused a coulple of pistons to the head. I can't seem to locate them at the moment, I have no idea where I put them. There wasnt much carnage from the CR, just a scored cylinder wall and some rings that fell apart on the shop floor haha.

Welcome to the family here... Sad to here you starting out with a burn piston and bore. :(Hopefully you gain enough knowledge here to prevent that from happening again...

haha its not really starting out, truck made it to 230,000 miles before an injector let go. I've had much worse happen much sooner, don't get me started on the things I've had to do to sub 100K 6.0 Powerchokes.

I hate to say it but no matter what brand name you pick there is going to be a weakness to it. Even every signle model of that brand has a weakness. It all about learning about the weakness early and protecting you vehicle from damage. Like 3rd Gens have weakness of injecotr failure like you found out and before that is the weakness of the fuel filters which causes the injector failures.
