I can't say that it's "true", but I was told something similar because I'm currently chasing a "ghost" that is burning my fluid. That said, it wasn't the cause of my situation. I'd give some of the expert companies a call and see what they say. Good luck!

I am not sure what years are included but some (maybe all?) have a check ball that is designed to keep the tq converter from draining back fluid so it is not dry at start up. It is common to remove this check ball the logic being first it will allow more fluid flow to the cooler but more importantly removing the possibility of the check ball sticking shut and burning up the transmission.

My oil is definetly truning dark way before it's time. I just changed it 10k mile backand a little later I put a deep pan and it's already truning dark again. I bet I dont have 3k with the new pan. :shrug:I sure would like to here some info on this if it's out there before we go to the poor house on this one :spend:

I know there's a check-ball in the rear-most -AN fitting of the block-mounted trans cooler.I've heard of another one, but haven't seen one yet.

On mine...the cooler was no good. Previous owner did some serious damage to it...couldn't tell you how lol. Shop also checked the line where the check ball was supposed to be and it was already removed. Coundn't tell you which line though..not technical enough on that stuff.Previous owner had DTT internals put in the tranny but skipped the converter and valve body because he decided to sell it (this is where I (the sucker lol) came into the picture. Next we pulled the converter and sent it out to be looked at....it's junk too. Hopefully the new converter will do the trick. I'll upgrade the valve body when I do the turbo and injectors.I've done so much to my truckk since I've bought it that I debate upgrading or finishing it and I always come back to having too much into it not to finish it. I'll never get my $$ back either way. If I ever get the body work done...I almost want to do a build thread just to show it off...problem is it just going to be stock, other than the color. hahahaHope we all get it figured out...keep us posted!

I`m wondering if a transmission flush would help? Maybe as part of a routine preventive maintenence.

I fluhed it and it still turns dark, in just 10k. The trans will sometimes skip second then down shift back to first then shift fine after all that. The truck only has 50k on it. I guess from what I have heard I should pull the check ball and see what that does.
