I dont get to post alot due working out of town, but my brother in law has 99 with the cracked block so I 'm swapping out his parts for my parts. The hot rod pump, fass 150, bigger trubo and the edge cs off the truck. What does everyone think about the hot rod pumps? Thanks

I have no experience with them, but from what I've heard about them, I'll just stick with a good ole standard output.

Just remember you can't (or shouldn't) use a module or a programmer against a Hotrod pump. The hotrod pump is already advanced in timing so it can over advance it. So keep that in mind if you think about buying one...

i put one on my truck about three years ago and i am very happy with it

I ran one on my 02 but only because I got it at SO VP price, I would have never bought one for the extra 500++ bucks they want for them. After running one I would not go for another as the gain versus extra cost are not worth it, there are better mods to be done. Had no issues with it other than a lope at idle as it was combined with other fueling mods.

So you are saying that all the folks with an HO pump shouldn't be running any comp box at all?

It is nothing but a combination of SO and HO pump parts some companies do some internal work also but not all. Runs the pressure and timing of the HO pump with the fuel volume of the SO pump to keep things at a very simple explanation. There are the more aggressive Vp pumps that are hotter than the standard Hot rod pump that have a lot of internal mods done.

The HR pump have more timing gains than HO pump. From the way it was explained to me and suggested not to stack modules on top of the HR pumps for this reason. The internal parts might be a bit different but the timing curve has change a bit too. Like over on DB.com one has proven that a HR VP44 pump with a chip actually reduced HP/TQ over a standard SO VP44 pump and chip.

so i called edge today. their tech support said that levels 1-3 would still work but not to tap the pump. If i tap the pump they said the gain would be very little with a hot rod pump.

When I had my 02 on the dyno, I made several runs and overall with the II HRvp44 tapped level 5x4 Which always outperformed 5x5 no matter what setup I had on hot unlocked edge comp and BD 155 injectors and II silver 62 turbo I only gained about 35 hp and about 150 ft lbs torque versus my SO pump.It was a good combo with the tapped comp overall, I had no issues other than a lope while warm at idle, I ran a smarty with it for a very short time and the smarty with or without th comp on was a nearly undrivable combo, this thing had such an extremely touchy throttle off idle it was almost dangerous. I sold the smarty shortly after as I couldn't find a good Smarty setting after the HR pump.

thanks for the info. lets say I was going to run a bigger turbo and 90hp injectors in the future would the stock pump handle the need for fuel or would the hot rod pump be the better choice.

The SO pump is good to 650HP.
