I have literally rebuild hundreds of Danas and only tried the case spreader 1 time just to try it and threw it back in the tool heap at the truck shop, never saw the benefit of using a spreader on Danas, neither did the full time gear builders.:2cents:

I used one once as well, and next time I will try without it. I had put an indicator on the case to see if it moved, and it moved about .01thou and I still had to tap hammer the set in the case. I was also worried about breaking the bolts that held it to the case.

Looks good. My 1955 dana case spreader fits from 27 to 70 series. I always use it. How else are you going to get carrier bearing preload?
