Ok, my 01 will lug to the point it will almost die when starting off In first. When it lugs like that you can push in the clutch and it will get a burst of power and rev up some what. What the heck is going on there? I been running that way for a while. It runs fine in every way but when taking off from a stop. Cam sensor?

Fuel pressure is 15 psi, no codes. You let out on the clutch and it lugs then right before it dies it with pick up and go. Its been doing this fore 10 months, like I said before other than that it is normal. 11k welding truck it gets 16-17 mpg 14-15 in town

Typically sensors will throw a code if going out. Thinking out loud... Its kind of like sitting in neutral and have the engine loading up with excessive drag?

No load up, it idles just fine. Its like it will sputter just as you are letting out on the clutch where it starts to pull a little and its like it will hiccup and almost die, but it keeps going. Don't get me wrong it will die if the a/c is on and you don't allow it to regain its self right before it dies. At least it don't miss, right Mike lol

Makes it rather tough with no other clues to what it could be at this point. I don't have anything to really work from other than the RPM's vary downward. Might try a cam sensor but I don't even have anything giving a reason to replace it.

Did this problem start recently? Do you know what gearing your axles are? I know with my camper on the back, a lot of times I have to giver a little throttle to get going but I have the 3.55's. My camper weighed in at around 3500 lbs or so. If you have the higher gearing it might just need a little throttle to get it moving, even in 1st gear.

This is one of those its going to be hard to diagnose over the internet. One way to see if it bogs down with the transfer case in neutral to eliminate sensor or drivetrain issue.Every cam sensor issue i have seen causes a light and has no tach

It could be, I have a set of 50 hp DDP I am working on getting installed. I am going to try the cam senor first. Just because it tells the ecm the eng is running or something like that.

I was thinking crankshaft position sensor not camshaft in my previous post. Here is the description of the camshaft sensorOPERATION - DIESELThe Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) performs multiple functions. One function is to detect engine speed (rpm). Another function is to relate crankshaftposition and Top Dead Center (TDC) of the number 1 cylinder. Because the CMP is now used to relate crankshaft position, the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is no longer used. The CMP (Fig. 6) contains a hall effect device called a sync signal generator to generate a sync signal. The CMP uses three wires (circuits) for operation. One wire supplies a 5–volt signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM). Another wire supplies a sensor ground. The third wire supplies a signal back to the ECM relating engine speed and crankshaft position. The CMP also detects an area on the camshaft drive gear that has no notch (Fig. 7). When the sensor passes this area, it tells the Engine Control Module (ECM) that Top Dead Center (TDC) of the number 1 cylinder is occurring. The ECM will then adjust fuel timing accordingly. As the tip of the sensor passes the notches, the interruption of magnetic field causes voltage changes from 5 volts to 0 volts.
