Hey I am not complaining but it quit working about two weeks ago and I started thinking (knowing my luck) am I fixing to have some serious trouble? If you push in on the key it starts dinging.

Door open or closed??

My '04.5 will ding with the key all the way into the ignition (truck not running) and drivers door open.

It will not ding with the key pulled slightly out (not seated) of the ignition and drivers door open.

Door open and key is seated. It should be dinging, but when you push lite on the key it makes contact. The key turns free, in other words it don't hang up when you turn it.

How big is your key ring? The ignition switches don't handle wieght very well.

We always seen worn out switches from people having lots of keys and junk on their key rings. Also pull the steering column covers and check the main wiring connector. Ive seen that loose and cause weird things.

If it's a "tilt steering column", put it in a straight position………….not too far down or too far up.

Was in the straight position when I got it and still is now.

Typically the key lock has a reed switch in the back of it so as the key is inserted the reed switch is closed so the door dinger functions. More than likely the key tip is wearing down or the reed switch is wearing down.

So it shouldn't be a problem?

Highly doubtful!
