Took My alternator off and to a local Alt/Starter rebuild shop. To double check it for bad diodes. My alternator bench tested OK . He then took the back off and to check the diodes individually with a meter, and I had "1" bad diode

I was charging Volts:  D.C. 14.30 and My A.C. was .055+/-

Moparmans video, he checked Volts at:  DC 14.25,  AC .005-.015   IIRC

The Alternator Shop (Jason) Ordered a new Rectifier/diode pack about $25 and Im putting in new brushes $9.00 as long as I had it apart.

The above numbers are a reference to go by .

My Alternating Voltage Test A.C. .055+/- I thought was ok , But I did actually have 1 bad diode. There are 8 diodes on the diode pack

I will recheck my AC volt reading with 'New/Good Diode Reference' when reinstalled the Alt. with its new diode pack

Got my rectifier from Larry B and from the photos my brother showed me this thing looks legit. I'm still out over the road, but when I get back I will be ripping alternators apart.

Hey guys,

I pulled my alternator apart the other day and saw that the slip rings were horriable and were starting to really eat into the brush pack. So today I shot a video of my alternator AC voltage, pulled the alternator and then polished the slip rings and then the brush pack.

Initial testing was somewhat promising as the tc lock up didn't return. The ac voltage was more stable, very stable infact. However, the AC voltage was still higher then desired.

  • 4 weeks later...

Well the lockup issues came back with the stock rectifier. I'm currently getting over a hip injury so when I get better I will swap in the new one from Larry b.

So after 3 weeks the tc lock up issues came back.

I pulled the alternator to swap in Larry b' s diode pack only to find out the brush was garbage.

So I pulled out another Napa alternator and cleaned up the brush pack and slip rings. I then installed Larry's diode pack in.

I'm installing it tonight into the dodge. I will keep everyone updated.

This thread might help, page 3 is where are some parts for Bosch which is outdated and I was told get a denso. Whatever you do don't trade yours for the one at auto parts store. Rebuilt what you got.

So far after fixing my alternator I had no problems surging, but 60 hp injectors from dap defiantly have less power then my old ones that were 75 to 100 hp 8 x something and mp went down hill.
