  1. No general diesel so it’s going under second gen I guess. Have you ever used cetane Amsoil and a couple other brands. My truck seems to like it. Mileage I really don’t know. Cost etc 1999 24 v 275 rv and edge, What about the new trucks and the ones in the middle Good-bad or ugly. Let the Good discussions begin I really want to know
  2. So what do you think about cetane. Seemed to help my park to drive and reverse issues a bit. Maybe that and 2 cycle oil to keep it lubed up
  3. Yes I have used 2 cycle oil before in my truck. Dry fuse el is not good fuel. It needs some lube in it I agree. I think Mt 85 My 85 % torque converter has a lot to do with it. 76 f 4 pm way to hot now
  4. Well not that cold in south central. We call it the banana belt Anchorage our largest city 300 k so normal cold in February in 15 -20 f during the day 5-10 at night some zero some 5-15 below that’s our norm but other places way colder Alaska is a huge state coldest I ever seen it in Anchorage was 25 below for two weeks 50 f in the house we wore coats. Coldest I ever worked outside was 55 below. Very dangerous electric power lineman 42 years retired and still alive. But it does get much colder here i other parts of the Greatland. Worked outside a lot at 20 blow but not much wind. Truck dieing is not from cold it from low btu fuel and not enough rpms to put it in gear. It dies
  5. So you think 2 cycle oil in #1 might up the btu burn rate a bit It could I suppose but how much and to what ratio. 5 gallons of #2 to 10 gallons of #1 was about the right mix for me in the winter. 20 x10 =200 gallons of fuel at 20 miles to the gallon. 4 k per winter Maybe 3 k with some idling and warm up so 100 gallons #2 with antigel would take me thru the winter. I called big dodge 20 years ago they told me they knew they had a problem in alaska where #2 isn’t reaily available all winter. But offered no suggestions as to a fix
  6. Those are some big nozzles. The DDT holds that much power awesome ? Bill K told me you got to tell me true and I will build it so it holds the hp But if you up the horsepower all bets are off. My 6.5 year old sweetie pie came racing out in the garage yesterday all excited. Her first baby tooth had fell out. I gave her a old 35 mm film canister to put in. So she wouldn’t lose it. She ran to all the neighbors houses to tell them the news Happy your teeth are falling out How funny. Yes very lucky
  7. Well as much as I love my old 99 I’m getting excited about my new 2022 3500 srw ho 6 speed I hope I get it soon
  8. Okay. Don’t know much about injectors and pop pressures. But my 1999 275 rv and a edge turned all the way up had a DTT installed several years ago. Bill K built the torque converter and valve body for just south of 300 hp So it has worked fine all these years until recent. Néw vb etc but here’s what I did find over the years that might be of some use to you. In Alaska we get #2 diesel starting about the end of April till maybe the first part of September the rest of the year #1 or 50/50 or what ever they have in there tanks. So my truck really truly wants solid #2. Year round but not available here in the winter Install your own anti gel. But only two places sell #2 in the winter here Glennallen and Fairbanks Ak for semis with heated tanks. To haul to freight north to the oil fields. To far for me to go. But my DTT torque converter was built pretty tight 85% lock up so on any thing not #2 it dies going into drive or reverse. It’s a fuel issue #2 no problems. Others could have problems We have lots of #1 in the state because of the airlines crossroads we are in. Jets use #1 diesel. So #1 is the main fuel we get here. How did I make this work for 20 years. I bought 20 5 gallon jugs of #2 in mid summer and would add it as required to make my truck not die. Thought about a outside fuel tank but not practical in my hood So you might really only have a quality of fuel issue and nothing more I no it sounds stupid. But ask me questions and I will try to help. Grandkids just left and I’m have a glass. Love them but they wear me out sorry
  9. Ok new report. I drove the 99 hard. 3 k in the bed and 1500 lbs trailer behind. Up some very hard grades and down. Pulls hard what a work-horse truck. Not one leak life is good. Took two months but I wasn’t taken advantage of by the best tranny shop in town And grandkids got to go camping with their crusty old grandpa life’s good. More camping soon. I really appreciate all the help. Could have never done it without you guys Thank You
  10. The old jd tractors have shutters as well. But the shutters were pretty delicate and lots of moving parts and clogged up pretty easy and we’re taken off and throwed behind the shed. Seed shacks and gunny sacks were used to try to make them run warmer to burn the tractor fuel common in that time. About 10 cents a gallon maybe a bit less. They started them on gas and switched over to tractor fuel and run them dry at night on gas so it would start the next am Bugs where not a big problem at 12 mile per hour top speed on the hiway And in the winter they open the pet cock on the radiator to let the water drain out. Antifreeze was expensive. Water was brought out from the kitchen wood stove and poured in for a warm start. I still remember the frozen water puddle under the tractors in the morning when I came outside when I was a kid And my uncle dumping hot water in the radiator . The first thing I ever drove with a motor was a jd I was about 9
  11. My muffler fell off years ago. I couldnt find it back. ( Genos by pass) my neighbors know when I’m home and leaving again
  12. I had just enough screen left. Time to put some miles on this old 24 v. Burning diesel and rattling down the road My friends say it’s to loud. Old John Deere 2 cylinder tractor under load Cummins pulling a grade at 1000 degree egt and a Harley with good pipes rumble are music to my ears. Real men make noise
  13. Ok more cowbell. I mean window screen I dealt with crankcase vent plugged radiator years ago. I added a piece of hose No rust on the bottom of my truck But I made the hose to long the first time. Moisture settled in the bottom of the curve at 15-20 below and froze while I was at work and I remote started the truck when I drove by in my company truck needless to say I lost about 3 guarts out of the front seal . That was expensive to repair. The boys at dodge had never seen a rasp before. But why call the owner and ask. They put the belt on so tight I had to cut it off with n my pocket knife to get home. I was afraid the rasp pump would frag I have that t shirt
  14. On my 1999 I used to go to the hardware store and buy a small roll of window screen. Each spring I would put in a new piece and remove it in the fall. But while traveling pulling hard grades hauling heavy and hotter weather I have over heated a time or two. Just would like to see what others have been doing with this issue also.
  15. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii are some times more than the goods total bs. But it is why your trip to Alaska costs so much We don’t care about the cost it would make us just crazy. If you want it buy it. We have a bar in town Chilkoot Charlie’s The sign on the door says come on in we cheat the other guy and pass the savings on to you. You cant live here if your afraid of bears prices bugs and dark cold lonely winters or bad roads. We got it all . My lubes would work just fine in my new grandpa truck. I’m born and raised up in Nebraska. Go Big Red. New truck will be called big red best thing ever happen to me is I got out of there I will truly miss my old truck. Makes me very sad 82 here today. We thought we might melt Pretty hot for us We don’t have ac. Or screens on are upstairs windows Sitting in the shade with my 6year almost 7 grand daughter. We had to turn the sprinkler on and run thru it. Starting to cool now a bit. I did not run thru the sprinkler He’ll I can’t run barely can walk. Good times
  16. This is not found at Walmart or most auto stores. You have to buy a case 4 gallons at a time from a mobile dealer.
  17. Mobile Delvac 1 ESP API Ck-4 sae 5w-40 Diesel engine oil CK- 4 Cj-4 cl-4. New oil. It’s premium oil
  18. It meets Cummins spec for the 99. I see your point. Don’t know what the spec is for a 2022 and I dont want to void my warranty 3 years etc and the warranty I’m going to buy after that. That’s why I’m buying a new truck. Delvac and 70/140 gear grease needs to go with the old truck. Thanks that helped me a lot. I’m not going to work on the new truck. Dodge is Thanks. Sometimes its hard to see the forest because the trees are in the way
  19. It meets Cummins spec for the 99. I see your point. Don’t know what the spec is for a 2022
  20. I’m sitting on $400 worth of Oil and gear grease what to do with It I suppose sell it with the old truck a sweet deal Thanks gents I love my old 99 rattler Really don’t want to sell it but I’m creeper impaired. 71 and can’t do it so new truck time. I want the warranty and dodge to do it. I just hate saying that. Oil changes everything. Bent m o— sorry. To old Soooo the fluids spare parts my knowledge of the truck are all part of the deal but as is where is needs to apply. This truck is ready to haul a 2500 -2800 camper Air bags exhaust brake 8 ft box regular cab. So what’s she worth. Garage kept still a good looking truck. Tons of power and slows down good. Good brakes total 3400 $ new front end. No junk tell me true. I have a number in my head. I’m so sad
  21. I’m listening and paying close attention trust me. What to do with the Delvac and Amsoil Next question please I’m sitting on $400 worth of Oil and gear grease what to do with It I suppose sell it with the old truck a sweet deal
  22. I have always ran my 99 Dana 70 rear and Dana 60 with 75/140 mobile syn. Two 4 ounce bottles mopar limited slip in rear. Never any issues or metal on the magnetic etc. grease was always clean and smelled good. Only reason I went to Amsoil was i found a dealer who gave me good service. Local places were always a bit iffy if they had it or enough. So no friction modifier in the new truck I guess?and maybe no 75/140 in the front differentials. New truck is going to be a whole new adventure. Mostly I will just let dodge take care of it but I have all this oil and grease. What to do sell it with the old truck or what? Don’t want warranty issues. My 1999 didn’t have a warranty very long. This time I want it or have to have it a bit different
  23. I think the first oil change is 7500 ? I have been doing 10k with the delvac 1 with a filter change in the middle at 5 k and add make up oil on my old 99 24 v. I have 5 gallons of delvac 5 /40 on hand Not cheap oil new 2022 will take 12 quarts 3 gallons. I think the 75/140 severe will be a good thing in the rear diff but what about the front? Probably need to let the gear boxes run in a bit first.
  24. Can I use Mobile Delvac 1 synthetic 5/40 motor oil in it after break in and for its first oil change Also what about Amsoil 75/140 severe gear grease in the AAM 9.25 front axle and the AAM 11.5 rear axle I haul heavy 3000 lbs slide in truck camper ??
  25. Picked up truck Thursday am. Drove it home 55 miles Shifts perfectly exhaust brake works as before. He had no problems with the mods . Valve body was in bad shape. Either the governor pressure solenoid failed and over pressured the vb or vice a versa Will never know . He commented how firm the up shifts and down shifts were . Always has been a firm shifting truck DTT put a 85 percent converter in it and it flat hooks up. Three hours at $95 per hour so $285 labor my parts vb solenoid and sensor. 12 quarts of valvoline atf +4 and one can of red lubeguard. All parts BD diesel quality parts I really like there parts and service etc and recommend them highly. With $200 core charge return it cost me about $1600 and State Farm help with the flat bed 55 mile charge. Then theirs the local transmission shop that charged me $150 to tell me it had a code and they didn’t do electrical duh and I now have a good tranny again price was right and only took 2 months And I actually found a real mechanic in the process. I’m a happy camper and I really appreciate everyone’s help. Thank You
