My new mechanic said all has went well with vb exchange. He said yesterday. I gave him a day he said he was sorry I said fine. I told him no rush like have been doing this for a couple months now but not with him. Will pick up in the am.Take it home 55 miles then jump in my wife’s new Lexus loaded with fishing gear pick up my 12 almost 13 year old Alaskan born raised and will never leave granddaughter to try to go catch her a big king salmon on the Kenai river 100 miles south of here. My buddy has a new jet sled and it will rain and we will have fun . That’s the cake. Catching her a sizable king will be the frosting on that cake. Then get home drive the truck around empty a fair bit to see if it has issues and then load the camper in the back and 4 wheelers and two sweet girls and off to the mountains Summer happens fast in Alaska. Winter is soon again and at 71 I might not have to many left. More later

Ok good news I hope. I found a local guy that will work on my truck. Truck is at his shop with new bd vb and and heavy duty sensor and solenoid. ATF fluid etc. Work begins tomorrow. Nice shop lift etc Private guy. Fingers crossed for a good out come. My grand girls want to go camping and ride the 4 wheelers. I thought it would be to hard for my creeper mechanics to do This shop has done vb before. I’m so excited. I miss the loud clackity clack of the 24 valve.

Well gents we are moving forward Found a proper bd second gear lock up valve body today in town. New in box That’s a miracle in itself in Alaska. Last one I’m sure. Maybe the first one ? Anyway the guy that installed my bd exhaust brake 20 some years ago I called his shop Looking for Jeff the owner got his wife. Jeff recently died from cancer. Very sad. Wife and I had a extremely sad moment on the phone. But after calling bd a fine tech of 20 some years we had a great discussion ppp cr 20 We decided that everything was going to fine I. Just had dinner. My fisherman friend just brought me some very huge freshly caught shrimp and some fresh halibut. It was just amazing Ok so now to get the boys together to put it all back.together. I hope itworks. Two creepers in the garage Hard to find the time. Busy time our summers. Catching big king salmon getting for the hard winter that’s coming fast…

Wish I had could do that. The installer that put my DTT tranny in is gone now. He was 40 miles north of here. My biggest fear is that the short burnt something else up. But if I get a new valve body I guess I will be okay. My neighbor thinks we can do the job. So I want to talk to a tech in the am Monday to see if my smart controller will work. I need to ask them about that so my bd exhaust brake will work. 10 k is hard to stop with the service brakes Camper and truck BD diesel valve body is who I think I will go with. I have had many good dealings with them in the past. Wish I could have the truck there the guys would fix me right up. Fix old truck 22 years old and new truck coming. I might be a lucky man and have two diesels for a while. Life goes on . Thanks for your patience and help

Very sorry for what I said. But my day had not gone well. I tried to take it to the best transmission shop in town. I was very up front with them and patient. I told I was willing to go the extra money etc to get it done right but they turned me away for the past reasons in this thread.should I have just dropped it off and said nothing when I do know some things . I’m truly confused. At any rate I must move on with this so I’m I correct that I just have my step son take out the valve body and just send it in and they will repair it. Or buy a new one and send them the old one as a core . Then just put the new or rebuilt one back up and I should be good to go. Did the short damage something else. The solenoid was gone bad . Do you think the pieces went thru the transmission. I doubt it but ? Talk to me. I need your help

I will say one thing for sure you guys do know your stuff. Or I would be easy prey fo the tranny boys and about 6 k they need to eat too but not prime beef and cracked crab. You guys are the best by test. Thank You

It was the short with out a doubt Is the valve body a up and down thing. As in just replace with a new rebuilt one? That would be a good thing . What’s the odds these things went thru the tranny Is that even possible ?

Two things in pan. Plus the piece that he has in his finger The two pieces made a s shaped part the spring ???. Who knows where that came from. Valve body I suppose So 6 bolts will take the valve body down do I buy a new valve body or repair it. Remember I have a smart controller and a bd exhaust brake Also I have a rear seal leaking so the transmission might have to come down at some point. Not a bad leak yet. But ? I have too fix the truck to sell it. I have ordered a new truck with a late August September delivery date. I love my old truck but to old to work on it I have to move on. I doubt very much any transmission shop will touch it now. But I will ask on Monday. Maybe I can buy a new valve body from bd and we can put it in I need some good advice thanks

Okay. We are working on the truck now. Please standby to help me make a battlefield decision. Pictures coming soon. Solenoid was bad. Tested bad with ohm meter but the real problem was in the wire from the outside connector to the inside connector. The wiring was inspected good. Not broken or burnt but we found a small piece of metal that had broken of and fell accrossed the ends of the wiring shorting it out blowing the 10 a fuse. Upon removal the the fuse holds. Wire short cleared piece of metal moved. See pictures now So where did this piece of metal come from? It was perched on a busy bar between two transformers on passenger side below the valve body. Seems like it went thru the transmission as it is scratched and scuffed up. I find it hard to believe it went thru the transmission. Question is put it back together or what? Will check metal in bottom of back soon Well, I’ve got problems. Got more spare parts. Spring too, plus’s more metal…

Sure hope old my governor pressure block has the clip to hold in the governor pressure sensor / transducer because the external holder on the ats GM block will not work with the old style transducer. It must have one. To hold in the old one. We will see. Off to go king salmon sport fishing for a few days. Only happens once a year and last year was a no go because of the virus. Fish on

Well as you can see my parts are here I’m so happy but my second man is in LV and my step son and a 12 year old daughter are climing a local mountsin Tonight. So I wait. That ats is sending me the GM solenoid which is bigger in physical size and requires the replacement block and wiring also you buy the transducer or sensor old term separately. $291 shipped to alaska. About $30 -35 was shipping fed ex more later

Since I will be the topside tool man and coach from above tomorrow night I hope if parts show up Monday. I’m going over all the torque specs etc. getting tools layed out. I want to make this as seamless as possible But I have one burning question. My $100 service Manuel back in 1999 shows a small clip. Does my made in fall 1998 have this clip? Do I need this clip and if my parts don’t have the clip what next? Thanks

So who makes the best front and rear flaps that go just behind the tire on the wheel well to keep the road rash off the lower part of the truck. A must have here

Should have parts Monday June 14 th. Ordered may 25 .th Not bd diesel. ( Sorry bd ) ATS diesel $35 to ship will not be using them again . Will not be doing them again should have went bd in the first place my mistake Oh well

I see those big rubber / plastic cover things over the wheel well are they any good. They look nice. Bushwacker fender flares Rivet or smooth. Do they keep the sides protected from rocks etc no whopper tires for me. Promised my wife I would keep this one stock out of the box

Has anybody done this. How did work out would you do it again etc Did eliminated the need for wheel well flaps etc

A 7800 lbs truck with a 300 hp Cummins in 4 high will pull anything you ever wanted. No need 4 low. So what would a transmission shop charge me to take it out and fix it. If they will even work on my truck ?

Great info thank you. But way out of my expertise to repair for sure. Would need to go to transmission shop. Wonder why that spring gets tweaked out like that. Probably only used 4 low a half dozen times when truck was new

Goes in high just fine. Use it in and out in alaska a bunch. Hardly ever use 4 low now for several years . I know to back up neutral etc it just will not go in and and sometimes makes a just awful noise So what is the problem??

I swear on the 29 th of May I called BD diesel talk to a sales person and ordered the parts They even had me in there system . Today I called them and they knew nothing about it and I was not in their system. Did a reorder. Should have parts in 2- 3 days. Good thing I’m in no hurry right

After about 2-2:5 hours and it’s not totally cured for sure. I some how don’t think your going to peel it off. Time will tell I think on a clean roof so it sticks down good it might be a good product. Clear and white I think Black ? Spray can and brush. Home Depot and or Lowe’s now carry’s it I think

I have a can of clear flex seal spray. No glass Maybe like the bottom of a glass jar ??? Ok I found a clear one quart glass jar with smooth bottom. Shook up can real well . Does not say drying time Report later

Not maybe this year but next I have relatives in Henderson NV also. I have more Alaska story’s than you can shake a stick at. Do I really need a a/c for October November . No body in alaska has them
