Tips for shift kit install!
I would do it if I were you. It's not like dropping in a $4000 performance tranny but you can tell a difference. Shifts are a lot tighter and hold longer. You can't go wrong for under $100. I did it to try to get the most miles I can out of my stock transmission. Since it increases line pressure I hope it works. You probably know more about it than I do but if I can help just let me know.

Shift Kit installation is done. Thanks everyone for the help. This has been the best bang for the buck so far.

Tips for shift kit install!
Thanks you very much for the info. Can you give me an idea of what difference I will see in driveability? Will it cause any damage to the stock converter or transmission?

edge comp question
Thanks guys. Its funny because I ordered a stealth plate because I hate those scotch connectors. Ive been a fleet mechanic for a long time and every time I see one of those I cuss and cut it out. Anyway when I get back in town Ill check it out and do the settings like Mike said. THANKS

edge comp question
I inherited an edge comp when I bought my truck. The truck is basically stock and I can tell a difference when running the comp but not sure if Im getting the most out of it. I checked the wiring and everything appears to be correct. Should I be seeing any smoke? Truck seems to move pretty good I just dont have anything to compare it to.

A/C Pressures?
Thanks guys. That's the info I needed.

A/C Pressures?
I read several posts on here about clutch cycling and decided to check my a/c system pressures. Today at 72 degrees my pressures were 225/30 on max a/c with blower motor wide open. Air inside cab is good and cold and clutch stayed engaged. I thought I was in good shape, then I noticed as soon as I turn the blower down or change from max a/c my clutch starts rapid cycling and pressures change to 150/40 when clutch is engaged. Air is still blowing cold on the inside. Any ideas what is going on? Too low R134a maybe?

Just a few questions.
Sorry for the confusion. I'm a hillbilly from Virginia and anything more than a tent we call a camper. It will be a small bumper pull travel trailer.

Just a few questions.
Thanks for the help. I went through the truck when I bought it a couple of months ago and serviced everything. Coolant is new, flushed system, cleaned out radiator, tranny cooler, and condenser, replaced thermostat and so on. Whoever had this truck, drove it and changed oil, that's about it. The transmission has been rebuilt or replaced at some point and so has the rear end, I could tell when I serviced it. I've already installed the fuel pressure gauge and plan on doing the rest as soon as I get enough money. Since we are not getting the camper until next year I think I'll do the gauges first, governor solenoid and sensor, line pressure kit, then auxiliary cooler. The camper will be in that range, I bought way more truck than I need, I've just always wanted a Cummins, and I figure better to over do it. Thanks again for the info.

Just a few questions.
Yeah I found that place when I was looking. I'm going to go with them. Thanks for the help.

Just a few questions.
Where is a good place to get the solenoid and sensor. They are all over ebay but I want to make sure I get the Borg-Warner.

Just a few questions.
Looking for some opinions. I have a 99 with an automatic. It's mostly a daily driver and I drive like a Grandpa. We plan on buying a camper next year, somewhere probably in the 3000 to 4000lb range, to go out a few times a year. I just serviced the transmission and adjusted the bands. Everything is working like it should. I'm wondering if a double deep pan and a shift kit is necessary, or if it will increase the durability of the tranny significantly. I'm a preventative maintenance nut so the tranny will be serviced regularly with or without the mods. Also, I'm running a stock exhaust. Would I see any benefit from a 4" exhaust over stock with my current setup? (see sig line). I don't plan on any more performance mods, looking more for keeping the truck in good running condition for a long time.

Alternator trouble
Good possibility. Temp dropped down here when this started is that normal?

Alternator trouble
Just had alternator rebuilt Monday and worked fine for couple of days. Yesterday when I started truck the check gauges light came on and I noticed voltmeted wasn't coming up. After about 30 secs it came up to 14v. This morning same thing and I noticed torque converter lock up problem until I drove about 15 miles then it stopped. Had alternator redone but still same problem. Batteries load test good. Alternator plug is tight. Any ideas?

Fuel Pressure Gauge Fluctuates
Ignorance and availability. I didn't even check to see if they offered a 2 micron and I needed to replace cracked stock housing. I was a little wary of the FASS filter/separator and wanted a little extra insurance with filtration. Probably unwarranted.

Fuel Pressure Gauge Fluctuates
Okay. Checked pressure with mechanical gauge and they're well within limits. Ordered a snubber valve and will relocate sender to firewall away from the engine. If it still doesn't work I'll do what I should have done in the first place and buy a better gauge. I knew better!

Fuel Pressure Gauge Fluctuates
Hey everyone. I have a glowshift fuel pressure gauge on my 99 and it fluctuates a little intermittently. I run a FASS 150 and I also replaced the stock filter housing with a 2 micron spin on filter and located my sending unit in the output port of the housing. Fuel pressure never drops below 15 at wot and never above 18. It seems to only fluctuate at idle. Also I removed the banjo line and replaced with 1/2 hose straight into the vp44. What can I do to stop the fluctuations and should I move the sender closer to the injection pump?

Engine Codes
Immediate problem solved. Found a bad ground which was my own stupidity. I cleaned and checked all other grounds. Also I went ahead and had the alternator rebuilt by a shop familiar with the problems on these trucks. Like everything else I've replaced it was the original alternator. Now its time to check all the electrical connections. Thanks for all the help. This is an awesome forum.

Engine Codes
Got it. Is it usually the alternator or is it just a toss up?
