O/D Lock-Unlock Issue
Had the same thing happen. Turned out to be a bad ground cable at the battery. I cleaned and applied dielectric grease to all the ground connections. Then it came back. When through the same procedure but couldn't find bad ground. This time I took the infamous black cable with brown tracer that runs to passenger side ground and I rerouted it. I pulled it out ran it across the radiator then around the back of the passenger side battery. So far I haven't had the problem since.

stock boost question
I just went through this not long ago. With a fooler and the wastegate plugged I see 28-30 psi max and with stock injectors.

P0336 code
I recently went through the whole T/C lockup problem and found it to be a bad ground. I fixed the issue and no problems until today. It started going in and out of lockup in 3rd and 4th but not like it was doing before. Before it was at steady throttle now it does it at different throttle positions. Also I just got a P0336 code. My question is will a Crankshaft Position Sensor cause T/C lockup issues or am I getting the code because of T/C lockup problem?

Smoking Trucks / Coal Rollers?
Rollin' Coal is huge down here in the South. It seems to be the main reason for owning a diesel and it feeds the stereotype that we are all just dumb hicks. If you look at some of the trucks down here they're falling apart and barely running but they've invested the time and money to install the all important stack and turn the fuel up. It's like everything else, a few bad eggs makes it hell on the rest of us.

Boost Elbow Question
Yeah you're right on the money. I went low tech and just put a wrench on every clamp and then re-torqued the intake bolts and that took care of the problem. Probably had several leaks but it's good now. I'm getting 28-30psi and it maintains a lot better.

Boost Elbow Question
Thanks. And thanks for this site. It's an invaluable resource.

Boost Elbow Question
So I am pretty well where I am supposed to be. Can you run 50hp or 60hp injectors with 35psi boost safely with the stock head bolts?
-
Boost Elbow Question
Maybe that's just all I can get from the stock injectors?

Boost Elbow Question
I'm an idiot Mike. You're absolutely right. It never even occurred to me until I read the words on the screen. Thanks, time to start over.

Boost Elbow Question
Ok did a little testing on the way home from work. Rolling down the highway at 60mph if I floor it I get 30psi 1100 EGT at 2800 rpm. At a dead stop if I floor it I get 28 psi 1100 EGT at 2600 rpm. This is all with wastegate plugged.

Boost Elbow Question
Thats exactly what I did yesterday. I made a plug with a schrader valve and pressurized. I only went to 20psi though. when I pressurized it it leaked off in approx. 20 seconds. I removed the elbow and plugged it because pf the bleeder but still losing pressure and cant hear or see leak. Is it safe to pressurize to 35?

Boost Elbow Question
Elevation 800 ft. Egts 800-850 rpms 2600. I may not be hammering on it enough. Getting soft in my old age.

Boost Elbow Question
Yeah I spent about two hours checking. When I sawith y the pressure drops its with foot still on the throttle. Maybe difference of engine load? Hard to find straight flat spot to test here.

Boost Elbow Question
I tested for leaks and cant find anything. I pressurized, listened, used soapy water and cant find anything. Still not holding pressure. Plugged wastsgate and drove. I can hit 28psi but starts dropping intstantly. Any ideas guys?

Boost Elbow Question
Thanks Mike. I have to try and trace down a boost leak now. I can make pressure but I cant hold it. Is the best way to find the leak to pressurize the inlet at the turbo and use the old fashioned soap and water?

Boost Elbow Question
Thanks. I went back and set it to 35psi. You're right that cleared it up for the most part.

Boost Elbow Question
Checked it out today and was only getting 20psi. Adjusted to 30psi and smoke is back to normal. So much for factory preset I guess.

Boost Elbow Question
I'm going to do a little testing today. I couldn't really get into it because I had the family in there. I'll let you know. I think you're probably right the preset isn't set correctly. I need to check my CAC hoses too anyway. That's one thing I haven't replaced yet.

Boost Elbow Question
I installed an adjustable boost elbow today preset at 30psi. Before the elbow with the Comp on 5x5 I was seeing a moderate amount of smoke at wot. After the elbow installation it's rollin' some serious coal now at wot. Am I mistaken thinking that there should be less smoke with the elbow than without? Truck runs awesome just curious about the smoke I think I choked a poor guy on a bicycle today when I passed him.

best all-around diesel truck?
I'm with you. After being down the "new car" road before, I say take the 400-600 dollars a month you'll be paying for a new truck plus insurance and put it into the truck you have. You'll have a nice looking, dependable truck probably way before you hit the $50,000 mark.

best all-around diesel truck?
From personal experience they're horrible on fuel. Doesn't matter whether it's a pickup or a little box truck.

best all-around diesel truck?
I've always been a Ford guy but they've all been gassers. This is my first Dodge and it's because of the Cummins. I was a Fleet Mechanic at a Bakery that ran 4BT & 6BT's and they took a lot of abuse and kept on ticking. Now I work with mostly Ford's and Chevy's and I'm not all that impressed with either. The 6.7L Ford's seem to have quite a bit of trouble with Emissions and Suspension. It seems like engine parts are hard to get as well. I haven't noticed many problems with the Duramax but we don't have a lot of them. The biggest problem with the Chevy's so far has been the rear ends going out. I don't know much of anything about the newer Dodge/Cummins but after dealing with the Cummins Dealer for quite a while now and being around the other trucks I would lean towards the Cummins. This is just my opinion though and the problems I've seen with the other manufacturers may be application related because they are run hard and abused. I think you are going about it the best way. Ask for info and opinions, then test drive them all and make an informed decision. Good luck. Let us know what you get.

Tips for shift kit install!
I bought the shift kit from Ebay SK TFOD-Diesel kit. USA Industries was the seller. I also bought a Borg Warner Governor Solenoid and a new pressure sensor from Cascade Transmission Parts.
