  1. @jlbayes I’ve been doing some searching.... how’d you like the common rail head swap? Not having a truck truck to take the head to be pressure tested has allowed a lot of free time to do research!
  2. @jlbayes should I be worried about the crack growing over time? I am adding that new turbo once I get everything figured out. I will be taking it to the shop soon for a pressure test. Found a total of 4 cracks. 3 of them are hairline cracks but that one is very evident.
  3. Alright guys I am starting a new thread looking for replacement heads. I am looking at a few options... there isn’t much information out there regarding who has the best replacement heads that won’t break the bank, and who you should stay away from. Let me know what you guys think!!! Option 1: http://djprecisionmachine.com/product/1998-2002-stage-1-24v-cummins-performance-head/ Option 2: https://www.littlepowershop.com/dodge-cummins-diesel/1998-5-2002-5-9-cummins-24v/engine-parts/cylinder-heads-related/1998-2002-dodge-5-9-cummins-24v-new-cylinder-head-loaded-w-103lbsprings/ Option 3: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F192240528906
  4. @Me78569 once I figure out my cracked head situation and she can move under her own power I will do so
  5. The pattern is very close to stock but much brighter. They are no where near as clean cut as your HID’s but you can adjust them by turning the bulb. This is the only picture I have and I did it during the day. But shows the factory vs LED. @Me78569 & @Mopar1973Man
  6. I look into doing a HID retrofit then I did a little more searching. I ended up buying these LED’s off Amazon and then got these housings off eBay. These headlights are extremely bright and I do get flashed from time to time. They do have a brights feature and it is incredibly bright! I did this on a budget. Been satisfied so far. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=281252212462&globalID=EBAY-US https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VNBEQ4Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  7. Alright guys I have been putting in a few hrs here and there when I can. Got around to cleaning the head and the block in preparation to put the new head gasket on and found this guy... this is on cylinder 1. Time for a new head, or what??? I took it while it was “dirty” to be checked for flatness and it was good. However in the shops “30 second” inspection they missed this. I’ve done some short reading I guess cracks in the exhaust side are common? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you
  8. @Mopar1973Man you hit the nail on the head!!!
  9. Alright gents I’m going with the 62/65/12 gated Stay tuned!!! thank you everyone for your help. I am stubborn and hard headed when it comes to a large purchase like this!!
  10. @jlbayes and @Mopar1973Man ok that all makes sense I think! The larger wheel pushes more air with less effort? So do I want more leverage as in the 68 or do I want a little less leverage with the 65? I am looking for reliability and longevity
  11. @jlbayes can you expand on that comment I am a little confused?
  12. @Dieselfuture you had Zach Bore out your HX35 right? And if you don’t mind me asking what did that run you? I’ve had a few quotes for the S362/68/12SX-E for approx $1,300 and when I asked for the S300g to be bored out it was $1,400
  13. @Silverdodge I actually like the sizing of that turbo. I don’t know how I overlooked the 62/68/12... how do you like the spool up on it and when does the turbo light for you? Ok I think I have narrowed it down to the two sizes below. Just not sure what size is better for my application now. I don’t want it to be too big and I don’t want to regret not going big enough....? -62/65/12 -62/68/12 I will be looking into injectors probably next year. Thanks everyone for your input!!
  14. Ok guys I am having to replace my head gasket and while I’m at it I decided to put in a new turbo..... after a ton of searching I am no further along in my quest to find the turbo I want. With all the sales going on next week I’d like to take advantage of it!!! -I would like 500 ish horse power -this is my daily driver -I tow a 10,000lb horse trailer once every other month -I’m running a FASS 150 -ARP Head Studs -HX40 down pipe -Quadzilla V2 tuning I’d like to pick the right turbo so I don’t regret my decision down the rd. I am torn between a few turbo sizes... -S364/68/.70SXE -S362/65/.70SXE -S300g (57/60/12) If you guys guys had the opportunity to start fresh with a new turbo what would you purchase? Hopefully you guys can help me reach a decision!!
  15. @Dieselfuture don’t think I need to have the head machined?
  16. Got the head off does everything look good to you guys? Never had to open a motor before.
  17. @jlbayes definitely not interested in a China unit... do you have a link? Everywhere else I’m lookin at $1200
  18. Yeah after your heart drops you go.... “oh thank goodness” lol. https://www.full-race.com/store/diesel-turbos/borgwarner-s300g-upgrade-turbo-for-cummins-5-9-engines/ What do you guys think of this deal?
  19. @Dieselfuture unfortunately I stripped it and pulled the threads... found out with a 1/2” longer bolt I have more threads down there that work. Immediately invested in a smaller torque wrench after that happened!!!!!
  20. @trreed nope I haven’t cleaned anything. The truck only has 73K on it now.
  21. Alright guys I am tearing into the truck I started getting the push rods rockers and injectors out tonight and look what I found by push rod #1 haha. Confirmed suspicions!
  22. @jlbayes with the V2 tuning and my 7x.009 sticks what size?
  23. Alright guys I am back from the trip. I have read @Dieselfuture‘s post regarding his HG job and I’ll be doing the same. Now I am also considering a turbo but and not constrained to a HX30 down pipe. What are your guys thoughts? I talked to Zach already and he recommended an S300g however I gave DAP a call and they recommended a S300SX-E. I want mid 400’s with an option to upgrade down the rd. It’s my daily driver, sees a 10K trailer once a month. I want reliable power. What turbo do do you guys recommend? There are quite a few options and I cannot find a clear winner “yet” haha
  24. @jlbayes I installed the studs myself. I installed each one one at a time. I then torqued them in three different sequences up to 125 pounds. It is still the stock head gasket in my truck only sees about 40 pounds of boost on occasion. I believe it is number 25 had come completely loose?.... with that stay coming loose I believe it allowed separation between the head with the oil pouring out I believe it caused a major void in the gasket. What do you guys think is that a good hunch? Current situation... the 6.0 comes in to save the trip... this is bassakwards?
