  3. Well considering when your talking to Mr Wizard when your talking to CAT and having them check your oil. The saw an increased amount of Al that would be normal but nothing to do but watch whats going on..I said "Watch"? I can hear it...They filtered it and called back. They said the sample contained too-big of Al to make it into their graph,chart.ect. He said yup alot of Al. tin-0 silver-0 copper-1 lead-0 bearings look good on ppm...SOOO Money and decisions...head comes off...look for carnage...
  4. It's not that its "an excuse" they always ask why. I tell them. I never disagree I wasn't speeding. I make them feel as comfortable as possible. They have the decision to give a ticket. When I was a reserve officer for 3 years I would have cited myself for the speed I was going. Hands down. I don't try to get out of tickets because from personal experience its annoying. I merely got really lucky is all. The amount my insurance would have gone up and the amount the ticket would have been I wouldn't been able to afford to fix my truck that has a toasted piston and I'm grateful for that. --- Update to the previous post... On another note before I stopped the person in my head I start at 0% (depending on the stop) that 0% chance they were getting a ticket. Following them, where they stopped, what they said, their manners, actions, any other factors I could see that. Would raise that %. After retrieving information ie: licence,insurance,reg. I would go back to the car and see how many tickets they have what their record is and based on all that information I would decide on a ticket or a warning. If I would have stopped myself I would have cited for 10 over. The infraction also added to the %. Hands down I repeat! I am lucky! Baby on the way , oil analysis states aluminum, I have a lot of expenses on the way, I'm lucky and grateful. I have been on both sides of the badge and its humbling still.
  5. I was caught. Doing 69 In a 55 same road same place before. I pulled over immediately and when he'd asked why I told him I never changed my speedo gear and thought I was doing 64-65 when in turn I was faster.. warning again.. I respect what they do. I don't think their is enough of them.
  6. State police stopped me. My truck is home with engine trouble and I'm driving my wives 2000 v6 Camero. I was doing 76 in a 55. He asked me why I was driving so fast. I replied that my daily driver is a 12 valve cummins and I drive by sound.. He asks sound? I said yes. When my truck is screaming and you can't hear yourself over the straight pipe I know I'm doing 62-65 mph.. my wives car runs so smooth I forgotten I was in it... He handed my information back and said.. I understand... Have a nice day...Holy cow.. Did that just happen?
  7. I agree! What if though your oil temp is high because of ambient temp and load and your coolant is standing on 195* some factors for me during hay season and hauling..
  8. No doubt! I'm going to try a few things and see if they work. I'm going to head the yolk part that holds them and then hit them with water a couple of times. After that I am going to spray Marc Break away and tap on the sides with a mini ball pien hammer to chatter the fluid in.. I will have video..

  10. My question is this.Aluminum meltdown @1220*Short bursts of heat are ok because the piston is not soaking the heat and causing the aluminum to be molten. With a stock turbine working the choke point and sustaining the 1200 towing EGT temp so them I'm guessing we are going to be more looking at possible melting on the crowns from a quick short burst over 1200 if we have been towing @ max gvwr.Example: I'm towing weighing 17k lbs. I am running a hill and keeping it 1100-1200.. I start to crest it go to shift hit 1300 for a moment. If the metal is at 20* from melting and then you put more than 80* over it then I am figuring your (I am and had) taking chances.People if you have a piece of aluminum go heat it with a torch. It's unbelieving how fast aluminum will be molten then back to a solid.I have a cummins piston and I'm going to do a test if I can get some measuring equipment..
  11. My brides 2001 2500 needs ball joints her 38" tires have destroyed her stock ones. I know the tires are wee big and the 7 inch lift doesn't help. We are ordering moog ball joints tonight and I'm wondering if any one has part #s for them. We see a lot of different part #s and want to make sure we are golden. It is a cummins and is a Dana 60 I am assuming.Any beter than moog? Thanks in advance guys :)Lance.....
  12. The lift pump has a tappet. Solid rod with mushroom end that rides on cam.When I went to go start her to heat the oil up to take a sample I noticed it did Something it never did before and it seemed to have a slight miss.. not bad so I am thinking that cylinder is starting to loose compression and not firing. After a few seconds she smoothed out besides that noise... Took a sample.. off to the mail tomorrow to cat for the verdict.

  14. I have been running 1200* at 18k lbs up 6%+ grades. I'm thinking that my numbers are too hot for sustained periods that hot.

  16. I have hauled some heavy loads over the last hay season and I think my miss guidence from other people have swayed my beter judgement on EGT. Loaded or unloaded I dont exceed 1200*. I had 2 1600* mishaps unloded. I know that people will say that 1500* for a few seconds is ok and others say don't go over 1000 hauling heavy loads. What I would like to know is 3 figures..Unloaded sustained temp*Unloaded Max few second bursts*Sustained loaded temp*I wont hold you to the temp but I am curious on what people are running. This is all pre-turbo readings.
  17. I will do that. Seems though. With the sound she is making and the noise gets quieter I'm leaning to a piston.   18. Found maybe 3-4 tiny pieces of a brittle aluminum or nickel. Tiny like you can see them but just thin and small around.. I will put the filter in a vice later but for now I am laying down sick. --- Update to the previous post... As my wife says it "looks like glitter" now my question is if I have a scored cylinder would the rings bring back down aluminum? Im not finding any golden flakes just all silver glitter looking stuff.   19. Unless I have a magical moment..... Scratch that... It's louder every day... Pulling off oil filter tomorrow.. checking for metal.. if No metal I pulling the head off pending an inspection through the injector ports.. very much riveting noise coming from area of motor mount passenger side up on block.. I'm actually hoping its something cheap but hopping I get to pull it.. I haven't yanked an engine since a 454 I blew up in 97. I'm looking forward to have a write up sticky on pulling a 12v. If everything is bad as it seems I'm buying a snap on timming tool for $210 and sending pump in to be tested.

  21. to see the writting on the key you have to double click on the picture..enlarge it, then do a 2x zoom.. I forgot to mention I also put the picture into a photo program and did a negitive view and I clearly saw the arrow and the number.

  23. The unit costs about $100 but there is a catch. This unit will not work on a cummins unless you get a signal generator for the unit...+$60..Our tacometer gets a AC alternating current at a certain frequency.. The unit can't reconize this frequency.The other way this unit will run is by seeing a "charge" from the Altenator. It reads your voltage and will shut down the power to your truck if it reads the voltage drop. So. Its 50f outside...You click the remote..it turns on..YAY success!!! then the thing shuts down....!!!!??? guess what.... Your grid heater went on! GOD DANGIT!So you buy this signal genarator and put it next to your altenator and it sends a signal back to the unit to keep the truck running...I messed with this thing for a week.... The dash didnt look like a dash anymore. I burnt a ton of fuses up! I did solder all the conections though. I do have one reverse ground issue because if you start the truck with a trailer hooked up it tries to flash all the lights wich is super cool looking on a big aluminum stock trailer and it blows a fuse everytime for the interior gauge lights. I will try to find the information on it and get back to you. My wife has viper unit that also does remote start AND there is a Droid Ap and a Iphone ap that you can unlock your truck or start it with your phone! how cool is that?
  24. Don't worry. My dad is promised full hearing loss and a divorce if he doesnt get some. He thinks it shows age..I think he can turn them off anytime so he cant hear my mom..I think he still thinks he has a 360ci V8 in his 01 2500. he just cant get how there is SOO much more power than his old 5.9 W200 1976...he asked me they are both 5.9 right? Question..Maybe i have created my own wear that is suffering something. Back in December I installed a remote start. I know its a Manual but I have had 4 Mishaps. Ok well only 2...The other 2 was showing off. But One time my wife left it in reverse and it started and the parking brake was on. So it turned over a few times and died. second time I left it in first and it was met with a rack and the parking brake. It was running at like 60 rpm.lurched forward 2 feet and died. the other 2 were intentional to ssee if the truck would start in gear and how dangerous its going to be.(we live on a ranch so it was safely done.) what would this resistance want to start to grenade. what is going to be the weak point if you were just to come to a stop in first and just mash the brakes and make it slow down and die? Just curous. Maybe it will help us find the solution unless no one thinks it would cause BIG problems....??
