  1. OK gear heads! Same post different title, sorry for that but honestly I'd thought I'd get more than one response, (thanks by the way!) I understand if people have other things on their minds lately but I'm going to try again. Here's the deal, I just purchased this truck a few weeks ago, first dodge Ever, it has a "built" auto trans and the prior owner told me you need to hold the brakes and step up the idle when putting into gear first start of the day or it will stall the engine, said it's been like that ever since trans build. I liked the truck well enough to overlook so now I have to deal with. Once I go through the ritual and unfreeze or get trans fluid going or fuel pressure up or whatever the heck, it will drive and start and go into gear normally the rest of the day. It's a little annoying and I have the trans work receipt so I called them and asked if this was normal? His reply was no and he never heard of such a thing! I find that hard to believe because when I google I see page after page of people asking the same exact question! (With no real answers) I would have to bring to the shop and have them take a look and since they were 300 mi. away that's probably not going to happen. I'm reading that's completely normal, just need to warm up 5-10 min. in neutral? Maybe not enough fuel pressure, (10-12) ? Air in fuel line? Apps reset? Trans needs adjusted, bands, springs?? Questions, does anyone else's do this? Is this normal? What's your cold /first start of the day procedure? Is this a dodge TD issue? Thanks for any advice, comments!
  2. Thanks Evan! I'll give that a try, I did try a while ago for a few minutes in neutral with no luck, maybe needs more time? I just have to hold the brakes and throttle up and keep it at around 1000 rpm' s for a couple seconds in gear, so I don't see how that's super heating anything? Just seems to be unsticking or unplugging something, getting something flowing? then drive off and everything's normal. I'm starting to hear this IS normal for a dodge t.d.? Thanks again!
  3. It doesn't start in gear, it will go into gear without dying once you go through the ritual with the power braking.
  4. Hi all, I have what I believe is a 47re trans. question, so I'm a new owner of this truck and I'm admitting I'm more than a little nieve when it comes to transmissions. Anyhow, the truck seems to run pretty good and has a "built" trans. as in shift kit, beefed up torque conv. etc.. The prior owner said you have to kinda power brake it when it's cold or it dies when shifted into gear, said it had something to do with stall or? Well sure enough every time it sits overnight I have to go through the same ritual and then the rest of the day it does fine, idles fine, @750ish? Runs great, shifts great I've tried letting it sit and warm up for quite a while, but no, same thing like torque conv. locked up until it's revved a little in gear. I've tried letting it sit and warm up in neutral, tried pushing t.c.lock up button, no and nope? After going through the ritual I can shift into gear normally without insident. I have receipt for trans work so I decided to give them a call to see if this was in fact "normal" the guy I spoke with said it wasn't and never herd of such a thing! Maybe he's never herd of google? Because I'm coming up with page after page of people asking the same exact question! Some say it's normal some don't, really can't get any consistent answers. The trans shop guy said they don't mess with the stall and told me that they'd have to look at it, but it's like 300mi away, so.... I really don't want to take to tranny shop if I don't have to, but? Any educated ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
  5. Haggard, thanks that's a lot of good info! If I'm reading correctly, (not one of my stronger powers) that mopar kit #52122362ah should work on my 01? That DOR setup really looks good, maybe next go round? Mopar1973man, thanks, right the quad can be used without head, but with monitor would it be a viable replacement for gauges? (Tho not ideal) And do you have to buy all kinds of accessories to hook up once you have the unit?
  6. Another thing, as Dripley stated above, it's common practice to ad a quart of 2 stroke oil to a tank of fuel??!
  7. Sorry, I kinda got side tracked on suspension, the real dilemma in my mind is still the whole gauge thing. With the mountains here in Idaho I would like a little extra punch and was thinking EZ + gauges, but what about quadzilla adrenaline with iquad built in gauges? List is $700 without screen, use old phone or tablet? Not sure if that price is just starting point? I think EZ & gauges would surpass that? Never seen one in person, would it substitute gauges? (Quadzilla) Plus all the other features like economy, idle control, etc. I realize both would be ideal but $$ anyone have experience with quad?
  8. I actually pulled the trigger last night and ordered the supposed t-style tie rod upgrade, mopar# 52122362ah for $288 ,probably not much more than stock? I'll take a look at when it gets here and evaluate, I just kept hearing good things about. P.S. mines wore out anyhow, so.
  9. By the way, to each his own but I'm with ya on the lifted monster truck look! In my earlier yrs I actually owned a 97 chevy diesel, jacked up , tires, etc.. A joke and a nightmare! It was dubbed the black hole!
  10. Thanks again y'all! So is it popular opinion that the glo shift gauge kit is a waste of money? Kinda what the budget was leaning toward, or just get quality gauges one at a time and build my own kit?
  11. Thanks for all the replys! Mopar1973man, that's a great looking right you got there! I see you're a fellow Idahoan, I may have passed you the other week when I made a trip up to Orofino to buy my truck, it was a pretty clean one owner, (father and son) hopefully a keeper . just glad to see I have a nice neighbor to help me work on my truck LOL!
  12. Thanks IBMOBILE ,I keep leaning towards the EZ too, I'm not looking to drag race or pull sleds just a few more ponies when called upon. I'll definitely look into those fuel line mods, is that a pretty common mod, mandatory, or? Thanks!!
  13. Thanks for the quick response, yeah I'm scared to drive it without fuel pressure gauge, just having a hard time deciding what to get when I know it needs attention elsewhere too, maybe just do single gauge for now, get one at a time and work on other things? Was your pump installed in your fuel tank? Mine is mounted on the left rear engine. What's a draw straw? Anything I should be concerned about? What's that banjo eliminator kit do I see in your sig? That steering/frame brace is actually one of the cheaper upgrades and kinda makes sense as far as stiffening up things imho. Any thoughts as far as tuner, best bang for buck? Thanks again!
  14. Hi all, I'm the proud new owner of a 01 2500 ext cab 4x4 auto, I've been lurking around cummins forums for the past couple weeks and came across this one and seems a fair amount of y'all know what you're talking about? Not sure if this is were I should unload all my questions but here goes. First off I'm an absolute greenhorn when it comes to diesels in general so I don't even understand most abbreviations and lingo I've come across in most posts here, so please be gentle! I kinda thought I knew what I was getting into but maybe I'm over my head? I decided it was time for a power & torque upgrade to occasionally tow my 7k camper + toys and came across this truck that I figured had most big ticket items covered with built trans, new inj pump, lift pump, +50 injectors, nice interior, fairly straight body, etc. But now my head's spinning with the items it still probably needs to get it the rest the way up to speed. Just looking to get some opinions as far as priority on upgrades and such because on my budget I can't do everything at once. No.1 truck has no gauges 2. No tuner, I would like a smidge more power, (famous last words) would it make more sense to get something with gauges built in budget wise? Was first thinking edge ez & gauges? I know a nice tuner costs some pretty serious coin! And anything else that goes with it, idle control? Etc..?? 3. Has new stock Carter lift pump, P.O. said he had a fass setup and still fried his second inj pump so he went back to stock! Has bigger fuel hose. I'm liking the looks of that belt driven one but $$$! Leave alone for now? 3. Steering, was minutes away from ordering a new t-style tie rod setup and just read I have to buy new, bigger wheels for the upgrade?? I'll probably replace with stock if that's the case. $$ Stock style track bar seems pretty tight for now. Was going to get steering box/frame brace, bushings, etc. 4. Rear is swaying, rear shackles and?? Just happened to find a deal on CL for a low mi. Hx35 turbo so I swapped that intending on elbow and boost foolery but just not sure if I'm going in right direction? 5. Has stock air filter, 4in. Turbo back exhaust. 6. Killer Dowl pin issue, P.O. (original owner) never heard of it!? Thanks for any advice! Like I said, budget does matter, seriously thinking about keeping my gas truck this just seems overwhelming and expensive! I'm a 30yr retired auto body guy, so not afraid to do my own wrenching. Sorry so long winded, thanks for reading.
