  1. Thanks for reply, I really am interested in the versatility of the quad and don't mind putting in effort, but am I also asking for trouble when I'm an absolute greenhorn when it comes to diesels in general? (But slowly learning) Or just download someone's tune and hope for the best? Also know nothing about tuner's. On another note,(mpg's) any experience in pinpointing injector problems? I read here that if I can get ahold of something to read engine load it can point to bad /dirty injectors? Just wondering if I should tackle this first before I spend money on anything? Of course my "guru" says only way is to remove and test, might as well buy new ones at that point! Thanks again!
  2. Hoping to hear from some of you gear heads out there who have experience with both the edge comp box and quadzilla adrenaline, honestly my head's hurting thinking about Which if any tuner I'm going to get for my truck. My plan was to get a gauge setup and go from there, if I take my local Cummins gurus advise there's really no choice but to get the edge monitor for my gauges then comp box. He says as far as not being glitchy and durable, like 15yrs durable then it's edge, but then I'm seeing a lot of y'all have quadzilla's and seem to like them? How long have you had them? Trouble free? I like the idea of the quad having gauges and killing two birds, but then read that they're not accurate?? Also I'm Very interested in the whole mpg tuning with quad and I'm pretty sure the edge can't do anything like that? I'm getting crappy mpg, like 12ish!! Injectors?? Then I'm seeing mostly quad can be real glitchy and either one can exploit weak links in our trucks, just not sure I want to dive into that dark world? am I being paranoid or am I crazy for not getting one? Budget also a concern. I'm about ready to just get a boost fooler and injectors and call it a day, ( and gauges ) Thanks for any thoughts and opinions!
  3. Wil440, I hear you loud and clear! As a retired 30yr. auto body tech., I've been mostly loyal to gm trucks (gas) since early 90's, had phenomenal luck with them. I pretty much told myself I'd never own a Chrysler product for various reasons including those you pointed out, however due to my current financial situation and needing (wanting) a decent tow rig for my camper and one that got decent fuel mileage. I think I may have let that legendary cummins override my common sense? I'm sure one can make it a reliable rig, but at what cost? Steering, trans., wiring, rust, etc... If I could afford it I'd just go out and buy a gmc Denali duramax and have a mechanic service it. I guess I'll just chip away at this one for awhile with the help of y'all and hopefully it'll treat me right without going completely bankrupt. Thanks, Don
  4. I guess I'm a little curious to hear if someone has done this mod according to airdogs instructions and then wondering why their truck sputters or even act's like it's running out of fuel when their fuel gauge still says there should be some in there? Not sure if this pertains to doing the mod with in tank pump module? Wil440, that's certainly one way to deal with it, and I'm sure sure just plain good practice, but the bigger point is between airdog just flat out giving me wrong instructions with the whole return line confusion, according to Pat you shouldn't even be messing with that module in the first place other than putting a 3/8 barbed fitting on the suction port! How much easier would that have been? Btw, what size line goes from factory filter to vp? Not1/2. Airdog has some explaining to do, still haven't heard back from them!
  5. Maybe I didn't explain what Pat was trying to convey to me, with my particular fuel module, the one without a pump, has a little diaphragm deal in the bottom that maintains suction when you have a low tank and fuel is sloshing back and forth, incline, etc. Airdog wants you to hog out the hole in the bottom and eliminate that diaphragm and stick that straw down through, and taking the chance of running out of fuel again I'm not the expert, just passing along what an actual one told me.
  6. Totally different setup on the 4g kit the way airdog wants you to hack up your fuel module, per their "guide" the straw wouldn't reach the bottom of tank and no return line contrary to their instructions! Still haven't been able to speak with airdog tech guy, doesn't answer phone, doesn't call back! yes moparman, I can see how that setup could work. BTW, false alarm on truck not dying when put into gear, for whatever reason it didn't die the first couple times but soon back to it's old shenanigans! Thanks, Don
  7. Dieselfuture, thanks for advice but I'm telling anyone who will listen , Pat at big Twin diesel KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT! He's the undisputed official king of cummins in this neck of the woods, as a matter of fact when I was talking with airdogs "tech guy" l mentioned him and he even told me what Pat says about cummins you can take as gospel.
  8. Yes it's running now Evan, thanks for asking! Btw, I put into gear and it didn't die! Yippee!!
  9. 015point9, the thing is I'm pretty sure big Twin has forgotten more about airdog products than airdog actually knows, as far as installing them. Thanks for reply tho!
  10. Well I think I may have gotten to the bottom of this issue? I took my fuel basket over to big Twin diesel here in Boise, he told me lucky for me that I'd purchased from him before or he would have told me to head for the exit. These guys do this for a living every day soo... Also lucky for me I hadn't yet drilled a bunch of holes in my basket yet! He got rid of that draw straw completely, and caped off were I installed1/2" bulkhead fitting, got a 1/2" to 3/8 redused fitting and used THE FACTORY SUCTION PORT! He said in his experience I would be having a issue when the tank got low running out of fuel with that draw straw, the only thing he wasn't 100% on is were I had already hogged out that bottom hole in basket, I guess I'll find out? There was never any reason to remove or modify basket! Thanks airdog, NOT!
  11. Thanks Dripley, I suspect you're on to something about that supplement but maybe their giving wrong one to customers? Or maybe just in mine, lol!! Because there has to be special instructions for the 150, with the 100 apparently you don't even modify module/basket if your original pump is block mounted. Then again, it might turn out I didn't have to modify mine if only I had the correct instructions! Wouldn't that be hilarious!
  12. I have those instructions, but also a supplement which in bold red letters tells this nonsense about return lines. I have a feeling I'm supposed to just reconnect my original one but just wanted to be extra sure since airdog is making it seem critical, and what's their explanation of having to do it for the filtered one and not mine? Seems they want the extra fuel pumped back to the tank for a reason? Evan, thanks for chiming in, is that a 4g 150 on yours? I was thinking it was something different.
  13. Are you sure you're not looking at the "frp"?? I think at least airdog was confused (among other things) when he told me there wouldn't be any tank removing? On both BTW. The first one I got WAS the block mounted frp 150, But then I opted for the frame mounted raptor 4g, lifetime warranty, etc.. I think they're all called raptor just to add to the confusion! I'll just have to grill them tomorrow I guess. Why is it so damn important to have that extra fuel to return to tank on the raptor 4gll, and supposedly my 4g and that are tech. same pumps minus the filtering?? Something isn't adding up! Thank you all for trying to help BTW! It's hard not to be ? in these situations.
  14. Yes they did ask, but then again he says great, since mine is mounted to block I won't even have to remove tank/bed. Things have been uphill ever since! Actually before that if you read my first message.
  15. Some pictures of mine, they merge the 100 and 150 instructions but 150 install is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, they send suppliment instructions and they never show end result on 150 and of course don't really explain that whole mod thing worth crap! Thuroghbred diesel has a good youtube video install, but the 100, not 150 I think this is a fairly new offering from airdog? Maybe they haven't worked out the instructions completely? Very frustrating!
  16. Dripley, I'm assuming yours was the one with filter, air/water seperator? With a line returning to airdog? (Haven't seen one in person) but all I see on mine is line in from tank and out to factory filter/vp
  17. Perhaps airdog has merged instructions with their other products? If I read slowly it says the return line FROM AIRDOG must be connected to factory suction line, well the airdog only has a line in and line out to vp
  18. I think?? Maybe where it says to be sure to connect old return line is what got me off track? Bullet, not just that but you have to modify module and also run1/2 lines from tank on up. Well I'm still kinda stuck, the return line and suction ports on module are different sizes, kinda thinking I need to modify return line on module and re connect to original port? See why my mind is scrambled? Not sure why these comments are merging?
  19. Dripley, right, yours looks like one in directions, but they are also instructing me to use old suction line as return, I think I just figured out, maybe my mind was scrambled from thinking too much? The return line goes to old suction post on module, not old suction LINE as return, make sense? Here's that bracket I don't think is going to be used.
  20. Wil440, thanks, yes they supplied the new bulkhead fitting and straw that I've already installed, unfortunately my basket looks nothing like the instructions, mines like a basket in a basket so I'm not going to be using the mounting brkt. they supplied hopefully it'll be ok? Right now my biggest concern is they want me to no use my old supply line as the return line with no instructions or fittings. Some pictures of my module, I haven't drilled all the holes yet or any other mods as I might just pack it all up and try to get money back? Fyi, this is probably the easiest way to access tank at least if you don't want to mess around with draining fuel ect. and you're by yourself, remove rear bumper, bed bolts and slide bed back, air tools are kind of a must tho.
  21. I appreciate the reply bullet, yes I know about those pumps, my son just installed in his (even tho his hadn't gone out yet) unfortunately yes budget is a major concern, about twice what I paid. Going that route would be a hard pill to swallow at this point, with my bed hanging off, fuel module out partially modified, new pump bolted to my frame....ect. If I'm honest with you, and more importantly myself, I think my biggest mistake was buying this piece of .... dodge to begin with thinking I would have a simple, reliable truck to occasionally pull my camper! Been doing nothing but shoveling money into it since the day I bought it a few months ago with no end in sight.
  22. Hi all, so , recently had my fuel pump go belly up and decided to upgrade to an airdog, I know there were a couple options and I was planning on possibly adding power down the road so my research pointed me to the airdog 150. I call the airdog tech support and he recommends the $200 factory replacement with lifetime warranty, I'm game and get it ordered, only while I'm waiting for it to show up I find it's only got a 4yr warranty, and technically isn't a 150, I call the guy back and he admits he made a mistake, what would I like to do he asks? Well, what's my next option with the lifetime? Him; the 4g 150 and you use your stock filter and still don't have to remove gas tank since my pump is engine mount. Well for $100 more I get that one coming. Well surprise! It shows up and it turns out you not only have to get to top of tank but remove and modify the fuel module! I call him back and tell him I'm not thrilled, him; Oh, with the 150 you have to, I forgot, well you can send it back if you want, but it's really a pretty straightforward install. How difficult could it be I say! And I dive in,ended up pushing the bed out of the way, not too difficult, pull out the fuel module and looks nothing like directions but might work? But this one I can't get over, supposedly you're supposed to use the old suction line as new return line, with no instructions or hardware (fittings) to do it! Really don't want to start cutting lines and try hose clamping stuff together, Also there's no instructions or hardware from the filter up to vp. Sorry for the rant, but my question, has anyone installed one of these? I'm going to call Monday but WOW! Maybe it's just me? Can't find any info on youtube or anything, just for the "100" which is a completely different install. Thanks for any replies!
  23. Thanks,Evan and I concluded it's time for a lift pump, could only get it to pump up pressure once or twice, per gauge on Schrader valve at IP. I guess it could be something else but that Carter has to go regardless. The pump is running, just doesn't push any pressure.
  24. Got a hold of a code reader, that I'm not familiar with, at first it says no dtc's then I go to enhanced mode it shows po230, fuel pump primary circuit, and p1693 transmission. Sounds like the issues I'm having but not sure if those are stored codes? Any advice? I saw somewhere it could be a ground? (Po230) I'm seeing the po230 has something to do with lift pump? I know that pump is working, could it have too much pressure? On a stock Carter? Maybe I need to get a gauge at Schrader valve and crank over? Thanks for any other thoughts!
  25. Backed nuts WAY off, barely a drizzle Should have about half tank.
