  1. Can you explain why that is? How can taking away fuel lower MPGs? I have run on 3x5 and then 3x3 and didn't notice any difference in mileage. I just wanted to be a bit easier on my auto trans. I'm just trying to wrap my head around how these diesel beasts work...lol . I was on the understanding that with the bigger injectors you could lower the second number to stop throwing away extra fuel as black smoke at lower boost levels.
  2. Try it on 5x3 and it will probably clear up the low end smoke.
  3. Cool, thats what I want to hear. I never yet have ran my truck under 1/4 tank just to be safe. It looks to be a pretty good design, but I think I'll put a valve inline so I can work on the fuel system without loosing fuel all over.
  4. Lots of guys out here run it. Some even year round. But I would switch back to 15w40 when it warms up. Welcome aboard!!! This is a great site!!
  5. If the pilot bearing is totally gone I would be replacing the input seal under the front bearing retainer. Even though it feels tight check the bearing carefully too. With no pilot to help support the input shaft the heavy clutch disk would have been putting stress on the bearing. I would think you should be able to at least find a piece of the pilot bearing??? Or do they run a bushing?
  6. Welcome aboard, I'm like you and just got my first diesel. This site has lots of knowledge and good members. They have helped me alot already.
  7. I just checked out the XDP fuel tank sump and like the idea of it. I can install it without pulling the fuel tank. Are any of you guys running one? They are a bit pricy, but worth it I think. If I install one I'll go with a half inch stainless line to the front and mount my Air Dog FRRP back near the tank. That should solve any fuel issues.
  8. I second this idea...you have a proven set up now. You might lose mileage and bottom end response with a bigger turbo. I'm happy with the used HX that I put on mine. I only paid $250 for it and the manifold.
  9. I did the HX35 swap in the summer, and it has a boost elbow in it cranked all the way in. My truck does have the 3.55 gears, but I was just empty rolling when I saw 1200 on the EGT. I will try it with the winter front out and see if it trys to climb any higher. When I tow the trailer I will probably just put the comp on level 1. Thanks guys.
  10. So I have never researched much on EGTs other than 1400 is BAD Is it safe to hit 1200-1300 all day long? It was a warmer than usual day and the plastic winter front is in so the intercooler wouldn't be helping me much.
  11. So now that I got my RV275s in and tapped the pump I have been running on level 3X3 to save my auto. The other day I started watching the EGTs and empty going up a bit of a grade I stomped it and my EGTs came up to 1200, thats the highest I have ever seen the gauge go but never had pump tapped and only ran on level 1 before. My boost was around 30ish and I was going about 75-80mph in a hurry. I have noticed since the RV275s that the EGTs seem to climb higher before the boost starts to come on. It will hit 800-900 and barely have any boost building. Does that seem normal? What level do you guys tow on? My trailer is a 30 footer and 9800lbs. I don't think I have a boost leak. Sounds like I need a bigger turbo now....I thought I was done spending money...does it ever end...lol.
  12. I fixed mine with 2 pieces of electrical tape over the lights on the cluster...lol I don't like ABS anyway. Someday I might fix it right, but I'm in no rush.
  13. Maybe your tank is getting airlocked after you run a bit???
  14. Well you have found a great site for info. I'm like you and couldn't leave mine stock for long. I took all the advice I could get on here and I'm super happy with how my truck runs now. Mine has 457.000kms on it and still going strong, even after being driven by thieves. I think both of our trucks will still be running after we are gone. I'm 40
  15. They turned the key, they were either in the ignition or sitting in the t-case shifter boot....I know I know. Every vehicle had the keys in it. That stuff just didn't happen here. NEVER AGAIN:nono:
  16. That is funny right there, I like it First time I smiled all day:thumbup2:
  17. Yeah the area is getting rougher. It was always so nice here. All the keys were always left in every ignition. There's 4 vehicles in my yard they could have taken. We lived here for 10 years and never had an issue and in this area for 34. We even have 3 big dogs outside, but apparently they were on coffee break this morning. When my inlaws from Edmonton come here for my kids birthday parties they lock their vehicles in our yard in broad daylite out of habit. I think I'll be doing the same from now on. Tomorrow I'm insuring it to the hilt. In the end, my wallet is gone and all my I.D. and all my oilfield safety tickets. But my baby is home and locked in the shop.... It really was a good thing I didn't have the pump tapped yet, I have the comp set on 2x5 and the roads are icy, I was slipping around coming home while I was checking out how the engine ran. If it was set higher those punks would have wrote it off. Talk about a rollercoaster day, it feels like 3 days have gone by since 5:30 this morning.
  18. Well guys it's a Christmas miracle. My Dodge is back in my driveway. We got a call from a lady in Red Deer that takes in youths. A kid came there all freeked out cause his buddies left him passed out in my truck. He drove it to her house and she dug through the glovebox and found our phone number. We called the cops and drove in to get it. Was the longest 40 minute drive of my life. There's no damage on the body and it ran fine on the way home. They put on 197kms and used about 1/8 of a tank of fuel. Thanks for all of your support. For awhile there I was thinking I wouldn't have a reason to come back on this forum. I'm thinking of putting a switch in the starter solonoid wire. Then even if they hotwire or broke the column they would still have to crawl under and jump power to the small terminal to get it to crank. By then I will have shot them and started digging the hole. Cheers guys..... Think I'll go buy a lotto ticket
  19. So they stole my buddies truck and gooseneck trailer too. He lives about 2 miles from me. But his truck was on empty and the cops found it 2 miles away on a oil lease out of fuel. They tried to get his trailer off and hook my truck up to it but they couldn't get the gooseneck to unlatch. I drove right by that no exit road when I was searching this morning. I'm not sure if I put theft coverage on it, but I don't think I did. I want to vomit right now I'm so sick of this crap. Yes I got to put about 25kms on the new injectors, it was running so good and I was so happy with it. I don't know if I've ever been so depressed in my life. Thanks for all the good wishes guys, I will let you know if there is any updates.
  20. At 5:30ish this morning some creep stole my Dodge. They hit the ditch up the road from my house in another stolen car and walked here and took my truck. I even had it plugged in for them. I missed them by just a few minutes. Went looking but no luck.....I don't know what to do.....Cops are looking, but I know how these situations turn out.
  21. I know...lol It was probably good enough the way it was stock with the replacement lift pump only, but then I needed a programmer and so on...;) It is a sickness, I don't even think of modifying my race car much anymore. Just the truck that tows it. One thing is for certain this site has helped me do the proper mods in the proper order. Now I'm looking at getting a Valve body for the 47re. Any suggestions??
  22. Just got back from the maiden voyage with the RV275s. Took me 3.5 hours to change them. I did take the lines right off like pepsiocean's video. The garbage bag idea was awesome too. My #6 injector line was very loose and leaking so I hope I fixed my poor start if pointed uphill problem. Anyway, I could tell the difference the moment I hit the key. It sounded beefier, but smoother if that makes sense...lol. On the test drive I can hit 30 psi of boost now. Before it would hit 25psi the odd time. That is with the Comp on level 1x5. I don't have the pump tapped yet due to the stupid 5 point torx bolts. I need to borrow a driver bit to install the stealth cover. My stock injectors had 460,000kms on them and must have been getting poor. It would miss a bit when cold too and now it runs smooth. So thanks for all the good tips guys and thanks to DAP for great pricing and free shipping to Canada on the injectors. I can't wait to try level 3x5.........
  23. So I got my RV275s in the mail today. I have a question on the removal of the old ones. I don't want to pull the lines off the pump end, but I got new O rings for the transfer tubes so they have to come right out. Can I just loosen the hold down brackets and gently move them out of the way enough to get the tubes out? I have checked the net and watched pepsiocean's video so I'm all good with the rest of the procedure, just not sure about the lines is all.
  24. I put the glowshift triple pillar pod set up in my truck and have no complaints. It was $199 for everything. Boost EGT and trans temp. It's been on for 3 months so far. I like switching the color to red at night as it is the least distracting to the eye. I put a seperate fuel psi gauge under the dash.
