There is a factory cooler line that has a temp sensor port built into it. Here is the Mopar part # 05011244AA, not sure if its still a good number, it was used on the early 2nd gens. Just need to dig out one of the rubber check balls from either the fitting on the cooler on the side of the block or the new rubber line so there isn't 2 of them probably wouldn't hurt just keeps the cooler circuit from draining back every time it is shut off. This is the converter outlet line the front one on the driver side of the tranny and is the most accurate place to measure tranny temps as this is the hottest oil in the system. Measuring oil temps in the pan is useless, by the time it shows hot in the pan you have already deep fried the tranny as that is the coldest oil in the system as it has just been dumped back there from the cooler circuit. If this line is no longer available I know DTT used to offer a replacement line with the same setup only in a higher quality line / hose.

Put trans temp sender here.   

 

1. install sender unit into T fitting.

2. cut pipe. I used a small tube cutter.

3. take the pipe off the heat exchanger and cut off about 3/8" from it. use a hack saw for that.

4. slide compression fittings on both pipes.

5. install T fitting with sender unit on to the pipes and hand tighten the fittings.

6. reinstall pipe on to heat exchanger.

7. orientate the sender unit.    

8. be sure the pipes are pushed in to the T fitting, then tighten the compression fittings.

I bought the return trans line that has the port for the temp sender. Got the line from Genos IIRC
