Vacuum pump/Power steering question

Recommended Posts

I have been having some issues on with hard steering at idle, along with intermittent 4wd, and slow, or non responsive heater controls... I have been trying to track down vacuum leaks, but havent come up with anything, but a very tiny line with a break near the passenger side firewall...

I am wondering if the pump may be bad? I did find a receipt in the truck for a new PS pump installed in 2015, and I know the guy only put about 2000 miles on the truck in all that time...

could one have something to do with the other? are they a single unit?

Thanks for the info, and help guys!

Hard to turn is more then likely air never got pushed out of system, try going all the way left and right to full lock a bunch of times. If you put front end on Jack's it will be much easier, or I suppose you could rev it up and do the same on ground. If you're sure you found all the vacuum leaks then it could be actuator on front axle for cad if you have one. But sounds like you blend door is slow which would mean you still have vacuum leak.

Edit, forgot to mention vacuum pump is easy rebuildble and if it's not working is because the vains inside could stick from varnish, easy to tear apart clean and new seal kit.

I agree with @Dieselfuture. The pump is easy to reseal and clean up if necessary. The PS pump and vacuum pump are just bolted together. That little line on the passanger is the main feed for vacuum to the hvac system. Mine broke and I wish I had replaced it when i had the hvac box out. If it breaks again i will have to.I think the line gets brittle being close the turbo.
