Excessively high load (still) need help figuring this out please

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I hope all is well and everyone is making it through these unprecedented times. I posted a little while back about an unusually high load on my engine. I knew I was due for some new injectors as I’m currently at around 145k miles. I finally got to install the new RV275’s over the weekend. While I had the valve cover off I adjusted the valve lash as well. What a difference that made. The truck runs so much smoother now. A nice little boost in power feels good too. It’s seems to be less noisy. About all I can hear is the VP44 clattering away now.

Anyway, on to my issue. As I stated above, I am having issues with a high load. With the new injectors, the load is even higher now. Here’s some load number I got off my OBDlink. I did borrow a friends OBDlink MX to verify my load values.  This only seems to happen when not moving.  While moving things seem to be normal but I could be wrong.

                                 No A/C                             A/C

Park/neutral         low teens                     high teens

Any gear             high twenties                 mid 30’s

The load is so much higher and I am at wits end trying to figure out what the heck is going on. The only two things I can think that would cause this is something wrong in the trans or possibly the VP44. I’m going to change the fluid in the trans this weekend and check to see if there are any signs of issues.

I would really appreciate some help with this. Is there anything anyone can think that might help with this issue. Of course my above assumptions could be totally wrong and maybe its something else.

Thank you

Dave

Thank you in advance and I am desperate to figure this out. Hopefully the abundance of knowledge here can help me figure this out.

What if obd link is not reporting the exact load number. If the truck runs good and you're getting good power and mpgs, then maybe there is nothing wrong. I believe load is measured with canbus at 4065 being 100% load, so if something isn't calculating correctly then it's not true load.

That was one of my first thoughts.  Maybe they made some major changes to the software or firmware.  Up until a few months ago when I noticed this my normal loads were so much lower.  What I do remember is 13% load (0.7 gal/hour fuel) in gear a/c on. That would be quite a drastic change. That was another reason I borrowed a friend's to confirm numbers and his read the same high numbers.

Thx

Dave

Finally, I am able to get back here.  After thinking about this for way too long (one of my downfalls is I way over analyze things) I have to agree with @Dieselfuture about this.  I am going to scantool.net and post there about my issues.  I appreciate your thoughts and will update if I find anything.

Thanks again

d
