Brakes recall #97V068000

Can you steal take your truck for the recall if its 14ys old?Has anyone else had this work done? I found out about it on the net after i started having brake problems.I have new brakes and bleed all the lines. I do not have full pedel. The recall sayes dealer well do a vacuum pump check and replace a hose that is engine oil resistant.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 58000

Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL ENGINES. THE ENGINE DRIVEN VACUUM PUMP CAN ALLOW ENGINE OIL INTO THE VACUUM HOSES DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF AN INTERNAL CHECK VALVE. THE OIL CAN CAUSE THE HOSE TO DETERIORATE AND PARTIALLY COLLAPSE, REDUCING THE VACUUM SUPPLY TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER.

Consequence: REDUCED POWER BRAKE ASSIST CAN RESULT INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL ADD A VACUUM PUMP CHECK VALVE TO THE VACUUM PUMP. IN ADDITION, THE VACUUM HOSE CONNECTED TO THE VACUUM PUMP WILL BE REPLACED WITH A HOSE THAT IS ENGINE OIL RESISTANT.

Yes trucks built july 10. 1995 to july 1. 1996.It was a recall by the NTSB.

Have you ever replaced the brake fluid? You may need to flush the fluid and get fresh fluid in and possibly replace your master cylinder.

Just thought of this. Do you have the original flexible brake lines on your truck???? If so, one or more may have developed an aneurysm(soft spot) that flexes/swells/expands when you push the brake pedal.......thus making soft or not full pedal.

Until I saw the recall verbage I was trying to figure out how you had a 14 year old CR!!If its a recall it should be covered still.
