Stock Clutch and 40 horse tune on my XRT

Where clutch damage comes from is high HP/TQ and absolutely WOT running in high gear. Side stepping the clutch is not helpful either. I ran for a long time with +120 HP tune from a Edge Comp till it snapped the hub out of my clutch. So then upgraded to a Southbend Con OFE and not looked back at all. But of course this is all old school (2002 Dodge Ram)

I think the OP is refering to Quadzilla XZT or XZT+. These XZTs are among the safest because they can not exceed maximum factory fueling. What they do is fool the computer to alter the fuel & timing curves. The +35/+40 setting gives somewhat more power but is actually the more econimcal setting, mainly retiming the engine... similar to the Mileage boxes... I feel it gives firmer shifts in this setting. I run & tow in this mode always. The +65/70 hp settings give a bump for passing or pulling hills but isn't needed otherwise.

There is a HUGE difference in the clutch holding ability from a NV5600 and a G56. The OP has a G56 so none of the NV5600 data is relevant. The stock G56 clutch barely holds stock power, and with a dumb driver the clutch can be toast in short order. Most of them fail under 75K miles, but some make it to 150K, with driving style and use being VERY important. The G56 clutch generally fails at mid/low rpms under heavy fueling/towing and not at upper rpms. It cannot hold the torque at low rpms. You could run a 40hp tune if you drive smart and be fine for a long time, my dad has been on a 40hp tune on his G56 for 90K miles and is over 105K on his stock clutch, but that is rare. When you replace your clutch look into a single mass flywheel conversion, it's a much better setup. Thou you will hear a little more trans noise when stopped. As far as the tuner the OP is referring to an XRT, it's a H&S tuning product for the 6.7 in his sig.

Like Michael I run the Southbend Con OFE and like it. If you only plan to ever run the 40hp tune then the Con O may be a little smoother. My dad won't ever go above the 40hp tune so he will put the Con O in his 06.

I have been in the market for a clutch as well. I pull a good size trailer about three to four times a month and have my mini maxx set at mild no ATT with timing set to 2. It doesn't slip but thats only a matter of time and I'm sure it'll let go at the worst time. I am getting mixed suggestions when I call vendors on what they recommend as they all seem to want to sell me their latest and greatest clutch. I am not looking for a race clutch, just a good every day driving/towing clutch. would this Southbend Con OFE be a good match?
