That is amazing. The 24v made twice the rated power without porting, polishing, intake manifolds etc. Like a gas motor would need. That's more power than class 8 tractor trailers made until the late 90's!

Cool!

If they would've been overfueled the same rate as this, No contest.

They were set up to chug all day, day after day at that ancient rate capacity.

10 seconds of burst is a completely different story. Semi trucks would rarely have the throttle pushed to the rubber mat.

I got a 903 cummins that was typically set up for anywhere from 275 up to 375 horsepower.. mine is on 320, Continuous duty..

When they were stuck in Coast Guard pursuit vessel, they were fueled for 1500 HP, 2880 ft. lbs, and 3000 rpm momentary duty. 45 minutes was what the limit was at this rate. (kinda weird, shoot... after 45 minutes, what's the difference?) LOL< probably out of fuel then!!

'overfueling' isn't necessarily just the level of what an engine can withstand before damage to the engine occurs... It's just any amount of fuel over and above the rated capacity.

vehicle manufactures ( semi truck, ag tractor etc) look at the total package too. driveline, transmissions, clutches, frame.. everything must be able to handle the torque coming out of the engine... day after day..

Engine manufacturers know exactly what level an engine will self destruct at any level, over a certain time frame...

... and keep us (joe public) well away from it...

I agree. Just talking base numbers of an engine that was jammed in a pickup truck.

I drive a tri axle 379 Pete with a tri axle low boy on occasion with a 600 cummins twisting an 18 speed. I always wondered what that would be like turned up. It's damn fast, and will pass anything loaded or not- it's scary actually that you can make 60k pounds empty move like that.

You can't have mine... Talk to Eric at Vulcan Performance! Comes with o-rings!

attachicon.gifDSCF2899.JPG

OHHHHHH Are you sure you don't want to ship them to me!?!?!? Haha just messing. I'll give Eric a call because he sponsors this forum. Mike what do you have to say about the smarty curve?? Been waiting for you to throw your  :2cents: in......

Diesel4life nothing too big yet.. Just a couple of snowmobiles. I wont until tractor pulling season starts up again. Might pull a 4 place snowmobile trailer this weekend with 4 sleds and a bunch of gear maybe 5-6k. If only the cab was bigger!

All I can say is the Smarty I got from Bob Wagner was back in 2006 when I borrowed it. It was great on the low end but got very flat on the upper end with or without my Edge Comp. Then I remember all the dyno runs and people stacking Smarty with other modules and always complaining about Smarty being flat on top. So the only thing I can say is something has changed. I'm not sure what but its change in the software. I really wish that Smarty UDC would happen for the 24V's then I would be all over it. Because then I could build a good base software for the Edge Comp to ride on.

Totally agree Mike. I want a UDC!

I think the smarty is deceptive though since it's such a smooth curve. I want to do a comparison with my comp vs smarty revo. Alone the smarty is not a comp, but it runs very well and my cruise still works with my 125s and 62/12.

Cruise doesn't work with the comp?? It is deceptive!! I had no idea I had 372hp when I tow! Guess that explains why I can fly up the mountain passes with the snowmobiles and others struggle

And UDC isn't going to happen through smarty. We are a forgotten about generation

It works, but I have to dial it back to 3. I should try it again. I'm currently running smarty only with the comp off.
