HPCR Injector Changes Throughout the Years

HPCR Injector Changes throughout the years

Some have asked about changes throughout the years.

1. With the  model year 2003-2004  injectors there were problems with the high pressure sealing ring.  Bosch solved that problem by changing its design.

2. Another problem was wear on the nozzle needle guidance and tip.  Bosch introduced a wear coating on the needle. Bosch improved the particle robustness with that coating on the needle and with a coating on the valve seat.

3. There was a design change in the contact area from the valve piston to the nozzle needle. They eliminated the bigger intermediate pin and changed it to the smaller pin / puck design. That reduced side forces on the nozzle needle which also reduced the wear on the guidance and made the injector more stable at low rail pressures when the forces for opening and closing are low.

There have been no body changes beside the outer coating.

The 6.7l Cummins injector is a different injector generation, so its internals are different.  Since 2007 when it came to the Cummins, there have been only very small optimizations. No big changes.

Hope this is a help!

Thank you!

Almost 222,000 on MightyWhitey on the OEM injectors.  620+miles on this tank of fuel;  and will probably fill up tomorrow morning and find out I had another 20+mpg tank of fuel on a 8000lb. vehicle!!!!

Don't know if'n we're still on Winter fuel or not, but MightyWhitey is still going strong and getting good mileage, in spite of a fan clutch and an alternator change within the last 2 months.  Both were OEM!!

Nice to see 6.7L engines getting there act together.  But lets give them more time and see what happens in the future.

The 6.7 has always had its act together from what I have seen, after 8 years in Dodge pickups alone since mid 07 and years in other equipment before that is way longer than any other series to not have fuel system issues, most had issues right out the gate and continued for several years if not still ongoing.

  • 1 month later...

Brian you speak of Bosch changes. How about most of the aftermarket injector market do they follow the Bosch changes as well?

Mike, I can guarantee the BBi Injectors have these updates and many other improvements over the stock Bosch Injectors.

Thank you!
