Driving to work the other day and the CEL came on. Turned out to be P1740 which means the computer didn't see the expected drop in rpm when the TC locked up. I was in third gear under light throttle and everything felt normal at the time. I was unloaded as well. I just turned over 69,000 miles. I've never had a hint of trouble from this tranny except for the 2-3 shuttle, so I cleared the code and it hasn't come back. That was 48 hours ago with two days of normal daily driving since then. I'm not the original owner. Tranny mods I can see are a Mag-Hytec double deep pan and a blue torque converter of unknown brand or specs. The fluid is about 10,000 miles old and looks and …

  3. I got this formula off another site, but figured I'd toss it out here in case anyone else was looking at tuning either single turbos, or compounds...it's really more for balancing pressure ratios between compounds... Pressure Ratio is (atmospheric pressure + gauge pressure)\atmospheric pressureSo an example would be as follows (and I'm using my current setup as the example)Right now, my overall boost is maxing at about 55 psi, and the primary (atmospheric turbo) is maxing at 20 psi. Pressure Ratio is (atmospheric pressure + gauge pressure)\atmospheric pressure, then my two pressure ratios are as follows:(14.7+55)\14.7=4.74 overall Pressure Ratio(14.7+20)\14.7=2.36 Primary…

I've been bouncing the idea of gutting my Catalytic convertor around in my head for awhile. The theory is to increase exhaust flow obviously, but I've been reading all sorts of conflicting theories. Anyone have any experience with this? Pro's/Cons??

  6. I'm going to change my 48RE trans filter and fluid next week (65,000mi) and while the pan's off do the bands as well. I occasionally get a shuttle shift at very light acceleration, and after doing some reading I'm also going to replace the Governor press solenoid with a Borg-Warner one, and the pressure transducer also. I figured the cost of those wasn't alot more than the fluid will be, so might as well do it while the pan is off.A couple questions, approximately how much fluid am I going to need to pick up for this? Replacing the solenoid and transducer look pretty straightforward, but is there anything I need to look out for? Been a while since I've done bands, I was p…

So I'm driving down the road today, and noticed a rotational squeak. So I get gas and the noise kind of goes away once I get up to speed you don't like 30 miles an hour on back roads but then next to like cement wall I can hear it if I give some more gas. If I'm at a stop sign and I make a left turn and get gas through the left turn this week gets louder as I'm going to the turn.I recently had the exhaust done but I don't think it's the exhaust. I thought maybe the pipe was squeaking or something weird like that, but based on what I'm encountering I think the initial signs point to u-joint but I'm okay with being talked out of that assumption. As always all your input and …

  8. quad cab 2500 vs 3500, the ebay place I found some cheap window vent visors from are claiming the cabs are different. I don't buy it. I expect across all the Rams of a given year there are only two four doors - a Quad and a Mega.Am I wrong or are they nuts?

  9. Truck: 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 CumminsOkay, so I was at the truck shop and they have indicated that a S&B intake and an exhaust would give my truck some much added love. However I have been researching the upgrade and have some questions.Goal: Squeak out some better MPG's and if it looks cooler too, sweet! From my research, the 2006 comes with a 4" pipe form the turbo back, hit a muffler, and exits. So at this point since it's all 4 " I am not going to buy a whole new exhaust kit and throw a freeflow muffler (Magnaflow) on there, and down pipe it cause I don't want soot on the back of my camper or camper tie downs. This is the time to offer alternatives, run a resonator onl…

  10. Being a new Dodge owner (past 3 months) I have never been more impressed with the rig. I have used a lot of machinery in my days, but this thing is quite impressive. However on Monday I noticed the check gauges warning light came on during heavy towing, immediately I shifted to the the following checks checks and corresponding results as I was driving:- Oil Pressure Gauge: Holding Pressure- Engine Temperature: Steady 200 degrees, Good- Edge Computer EGT: 900 degrees, Good- Edge Computer Coolant Temp (ECT): 850 degrees, Good- Battery Voltage Gauge (Dash): 12V while driving and engine running...............UH OH!The Battery volts normally exceeds 14 V when the engine is run…

  11. There has been a lot of discussion about oil samples lately and another member had a sample with high Silicon in his sample and after a few questions found he had a good chance of contaminating the sample with dirt while taking the sample the wrong way. I took some pics of a couple different tools to do it the correct way to eliminate the chance of dirt in the sample. There are 2 different tools to get this done and I will attach pics of both here. - - - Updated - - - Here is a pic of an oil sampling gun with hose and sample bottle attached, also in the picture is an oil sample port that Cat uses on all of the component on their newer equipment, I also have one …

  12. OK so I have not followed the performance end of the Cummins crowd for a couple of years and especially since selling my 02 last year I seem to have fallen off on new stuff. I saw a post by Mike yesterday with mention to Smartysource.com which I had never heard of. Went there and checked it out for a bit and did some reading on the BBI injectors they have developed and sell. Question is does anyone have any input on them? I see they want 4K for a set but do not show what or if there is a core included in that price, if no core I can't believe anyone would spend that kind of money on a set. I am looking at doing an injector swap on my 05 as it has never idled real smoot…

  13. I recently put in a set of new Bosch injectors with 50hp DDP nozzles on my gen 3 truck.Monday I drove to Vancouver Washington and set the cruise on 65mph. A total of 426 miles one way.The Smarty programmer was set to completely stock. My plan was to drive one way in stock format and then do the return trip with the smarty 30hp + tune.So Monday I set off on the trip and everything was going fine until I got to the Columbia River gourge. Got into a head wind until I hit Hood River. I have no idea what the wind speed was but it was enough to make my truck work harder to keep the cruise speed up. That messed up my plans for a nice fair weather test.Hand calculated the f…

So I was talking to a friend today. He asked me if the front BJs on the CR trucks are pressed in or welded in.. Welded in? Yep! Apparently, his dad has read info on the interwebz that they're 'welded' in..I told him they're most likely just pressed in, but I'd check on the forum..

  16. Thought I would throw in a couple pics of my recent rocker flare install. I have had these on my last few pickups and I like them a lot with the amount of gravel I drive the running boards I had on this rig were totally trashed by gravel so back to flares I went.

:ahhh:Sooo...I'm putting fuel in the truck at the only diesel pump at the station, in rolls what looks like a brand new Dodge diesel. He pulls around to the other side which is gas only and, starts pumping gas...in his diesel ! So I poke my head around the pump and say " Hey ,that's a nice looking diesel-love the Cummins, but do you know your putting gas in it?" He never stops pumping and just snaps " doesn't matter , a little won't hurt it" YIKES!! I bet he put 6-7 gallons in that thing, fired it up and drove off.. I wish I would have followed him now, just to laff, and offer a tow..

  19. 2006 qclb with muffler, no cat. The exhaust is a cat-back system of unknown origin from the previous owner. I have a terrible drone when towing. So bad I can't hear the wife and kids when pulling the travel trailer. I need to get rid of it as it defeats the purpose of family trips when you can't talk along the way. Besides, it's just plain uncomfortable on long hauls. I've read a lot about the FTE resonator but I need to install a cat for emissions inspections where we are moving. My question is will the cat solve the drone issue or am I looking at needing both a cat and a resonator?Apparently, mega cabs have factory resonators while qclb's don't. Was the cat good enough …
