Where does the diesel noise come from? I was thinking lifters, but when coasting there is no noise. I started adding 2 cycle oil and no reduction noted. Could it be the injectors? Pretty noisy clicking when going uphill at low speeds especially in the morning before operating temps reached. 161,800 and don't know if the valves have ever been adjusted? Only owned it for 20k miles.

I installed a big line kit last night. Now i have 3/8 line from original hard fuel line to relocated lift pump (raptor frrp) then 1/2 line to original fuel filter canister, then 1/2 to ip. The pressures look better 17 idle, 15-16 cruising, 12 WOT. Truck ran good this morning for a 30 mile trip. The problem is that the idle is a little rough now. Never like it is going to shut off, more like a hiccup. Did the same thing last night after I started it. I thought maybe some air still in the fuel line???? It did not do this before the relocation install. Any ideas? 2002 ram 2500 5.9 cummins

My oil level keeps going up slowly, i checked for blow by and didn't find anything. the truck still runs great and i am wondering if i could have a small fuel leak from like my injectors or crossover tubes and what could i do to test it. any help would be appreciated.

  5. As some of you here know I have had a over cooling condition in my truck for quite a while. It seems to be getting worse. No matter what tstat i am using now the temp is hard pressed to get over 175 and will drop to 155 but seems to stay just below 170 most of the time. This is in 70 weather, in town or high way and with 2 of my winter fronts in place. I am on my 7th tstat with the same results. I even sent one of them to Mike and it runs fine for him. After 6 190* tstats and one cummins 180* tstat with almost the same results with them all I am at my wits end. I have also replaced the temp sender twice and no differance. I am wondering has anyone else here had this probl…

I was coming back from AZ last week, up 93 to Twin Falls coming up grade engine started getting colder going up hill which is opposite of what normally happens. When I got back down on flats temp dropped down to 150. It was 19 degrees outside but that has never happened. Not wanting to stop, I continued on, blocked off radiator all the way and kept temp at 160-170 all the way home. Next day removed thermostat housing. To this? Went and bought new one at parts store. This is a first for me, never seen cracked broken thermostat. All is well now, lucky for me it stuck open. Could have been much worse, I might have got stuck in Idaho.

When I'm at about a half tank of fuel my fuel tank lines or Raptor lift pump hoots at me. I hear it more when running uphill or slosh the tank on rough grades. When this sound occurs I can watch my fuel pressure drop suddenly too.I think it is the DS sloshing around and loosing its seal and suck air. Not sure about this but it stops when the tank is full.I was thinking about a billet tank sump so the L/P is somewhat gravity fed. However, DOT has a rule that a tank sump is illegal incase of a fires in a wreck.Anyone know about this? I understand my insurance could decline coverage if they found out.

I did a pretty good bit of running around frome Friday night to this morning and just figured I would post some pics of the mileage. it was better than it had been all week but since it warmed up i wasn't having to go through long warm ups with truck. I have the SG2 set by GPS on speed and have not messed with the setting for when coasting. Most of the driving was at 60MPH with Edge on 5x5. I played around in town a little and turned Edge down to 3x5 to get a little smoke when I was shifting. And I had a short 30-40 mile run at 65-67MPH with Edge on 5x5.

  10. Hey guys i am new around here and have some questions! The 4x4 will not engage on my truck. i understand the vacuum operated system and suspect that this is where to start on fixing it. however, my ABS and parking brake light are always on as well. is there anyway that the two could be connected? when i put the truck into 4H there is no change in the steering and the lights do not illuminate. in 4L still no lights or steering change but it does go into low range. any help you could offer on this would be great! also if anyone has experience trouble shooting the vacuum system or has a diagram i would appreciate the insight! thanks in advance guys. Also not sure how to do a …

I know that fuel line size has been beat to death here and everyone SWEARS you HAVE to run 1/2" line to get any performance at all. I am wondering why that is so. Think about this for a minute. Assuming you get 10 MPG fuel mileage, most of you get at least that much. At 10 MPG you use 6 gallons of fuel at 60 MPH. At 5 MPG you would use 12 gallons per hour and at 2.5 MPG!!! you would use 24 gallons per hour. Now, has anyone ever taken the line off of the VP-44 and put it into a gallon container and bypassed the pump for one minute? I am guessing that it would about fill the container in a minute. I have not tried it yet but I will once I relocate my pump. That would be 60 g…

To install the 1/2" fuel line you need to get the quick connect off the top of the fuel tank. They call them quick connect, but NOT quick disconnect. Any tips of removing the quick connect? Drop tank? If I drop the tank I should do a draw straw too. - - - Updated - - - Someone told me that a zip tie fastened around the coupler at the release ears will allow the line to come off.

  14. Looking for the best way to re plumb between the fuel filter and the injection pump. I need to include a connection for the fuel pressure gauge and a way to bleed off air from the system following filter change. I like the needle valve concept as a way to shut down the cross connection and act as a snubber. Want to eliminate the banjo bolts. Someone must have pictures. Also sources for the parts would be appreciated.

  15. Have had this truck for going on 5 years now and it came with LT265/75R16 tires on it. Believe that these are one size larger than stock? Details on the truck below on my signature.Put some new replacement tires on a year ago (same size) and two of them lasted for six months then started having tread separation issues and were replaced under warranty but still cost me $40 in the process. Now six months later the other two are gone, bouncing all over the place on the hiway. Big O tire where I got them looked at them and its replacement time.Problem is that this brand does not have this tire or model anymore. This is the SAILUN TERRAMAX H/T and its been a nice tire otherwis…

  16. Hey fellas,I'm new in town here but I love this forum so far!!! I'm having issues with my 01 5 speed starting after it has ran for a while. The vp is only about 5 months old and the raptor 100 and the power puck went on when the vp did. It always starts perfect cold and it runs great all the time. I hasn't not started yet but it will turn over several times before it starts after it's warm. I had some water in the fuel issues a few days ago and I thought this may have caused it. I drained the separator and it straightened up for a couple of days and now it's back to the same old trick. I plan on checking the water separator again but the weather has been nasty here f…

I got a quote for $417 shipped for a Fass 150. Includes reloacation kit. No filters. I want to use my existing filter system on the block. Will the standard kit allow for this or will I need additional parts? Can I eliminate all banjo fittings? Need to make sure I get all the parts ahead as nothing is available locally and I'll need the truck for my work week.

Michael seems to be such a great resource for cummins trucks that I just had to join this forum. Going to try the 2 cycle oil in fuel tank tomorrow. I'm also looking to install a new fuel pump. Stock lift pump now on 2001.5 and 161,000 miles. Lift pump has been changed every couple years, so precious owner claims.

Just did a bunch of work on the truck getting ready for a drive.First thing put a "stealth" plate on the VP44. Its finished but the wire is not hooked to the Edge yet. Then did the final stages of the "big fuel line" mod to the truck. Ran the large line from the fuel filter housing to the VP44. Now when I put everything back together its throwing a "PO122" code. Drives fine, fuel pressure, throttle and so on is fine. Have tried to erase the code several times using the ScanGauge but guess its popping back up again.I am running out of time and need to take a 900 mile trip this weekend. As the truck is running fine, any reason why I cannot just drive it with the yellow engin…

I'm sure all this has been covered before buy this is my first CTD so here we go:#1 my tranny seems to shift into OD too soon after hitting 3rd. It shifts into 3rd around 2000-2200 rpm's and almost immediately shifts into OD. the Rpm's drop from 2200 to 1400-1600 when it shifts. Is this normal? Is there anyway to prolong the shift into OD to help keep the power and rpm's up?#2 is it ok to pull small(6000-8000 lbs) loads in OD? It just seems that on the highway at 60+ mph that OD off is just too rapped out. Is it safe to pull in OD at those speeds?
