First of all, from experience plan on either rebuilding or replacing the fuel filter/water separator drain valve when you upgrade from OEM to higher fuel pressure. I went from 5-10 to 15-20. Had a diesel leak for a few days and finally found the drain valve not shutting off entirely. Why is the drain hose so short? Spills diesel all over the front axle. A longer tube would allow you to catch the diesel when you drain off the water or change the filter. I'm thinking now about adding a filter system. Those element OEM style filters are like $25 and only like 10 microns. What kind of frame rail mounted dual filter system would you recommend. Looks like vulcan performance ha…

I have the chance to pick up an AirDog 100 with the twin filter set up for CHEAP. The short story on it is the guy was having problems with his truck running so he took it in to a shop and they told him his AirDog was junk. didn't have a fuel pressure gauge so had no idea what kind of fuel pressure he had and told the shop to change it out. Well didn't cure his problem so he wound up with what he says is a Perfectly Good spare pump. I told him I would be interested in it if I could bring it home and verify it does run. So I've got it in my vice at the moment ( I do not want to go through the hassle of installing it on the truck with out knowing it runs). The question I ha…

I've been leaking a small amount of diesel since my fuel system upgrade. Assumed it was one of the many connections on the filter or injection pump. Could find no sign of leaks there. Crawled under the vehicle. Nothing from the front. Diesel has been dripping off the front drive axle housing. Went behind the front axle and found a drip hanging off the filter drain hose. So I figured I'd open and close it. Started the truck and diesel came out the hose full force. Shut off truck. Opened and closed the valve a number of times. It feels sticky. But finally got it to shut off. Not sure yet if it fixed the slow leak or not. Is that drain valve serviceable? I see its got a scr…

Need some help with intermittent starting. 1999 Dodge Diesel 24v. "Intermittently" after Wait To Start, I turn the key to start and nothing from the starter but all the dash lights work, radio, etc.. Try it again and everything is working. It is getting worse over the last 4 weeks, but I only drive it ever couple of days.

Ok so I've been battling a hard starting issue. When it sits especially if the fuel level is lower and the nose is uphill it cranks alot before firing. I tightened all the connections and don't see any leaks. Can one of you guys video your fuel psi gauge on a cold start up so I can see how your truck reacts? Mine will sometimes jump to 20psi for a brief half second while the wait to start is on before cranking and then it will drop right down to 0. I have started bumping the starter without starting the engine and allowing the pump to prime the system. Then letting the preheat cycle do it's thing. It seems to start better when I do that but not always. This is start…

I should of never powerwashed the dang thing! I never would of found the snapped off peg on the bottom of the intercooler (or the crack leading away from the broken peg)... easy fix, I'll weld a 5/16ths rod to a fender washer, then JB weld the whole thing to the bottom of the intercooler.should have the new pump hung and plumbed by tomorrow... barring any new winter storms! But still waiting on the front crank seal.Son Rob claims the radiator is 10 pounds lighter now....power washed it back and forth for half an hour. Need to hit it tomorrow with soap to cut the last of the oil film meanwhile, I was under there trying to spot whe…

I took the plunge and ordered a fuel boss this morning from Glacier Diesel. I ordered and extra belt and the hobbs override switch. I'm not in need of a lift pump replacement yet, but having not upgraded my system yet, now's as good a time as ever. Also ordered new thermostat, hoses, water pump, and bosch alternator rebuild kit from geno's to stay ahead of power curve on that as well.I'll do my best to take some pics when I install the fuel boss and do a write up on the installation. Richard at Glacier Diesel, as has been numerous time reported both here and other forums, was great to deal with. He answered my emails promptly this morning and instilled confidence in my de…

Hey guys , having an issue with the oil pressure , when I start the truck Its at 40psi cold idle, when its somwhat warm its 70-80 at 2500rpm. When the truck is at full operating temp its at 20-25 psi at idle and 40-50 psi at 2500 rpm. i have checked sending unit, removed it and placed the manual guage on for these readings. I have also checked the oil press regulator on top of the oil filter mounting bracket, the spring seemed ok and the plunger moves freely in the guide. I am about to pull the oil cooler and replace the oil relief valve ( i think thats what is called) and the gaskets. I am also going to change the oil and filter. I was running lucas oil, but I think …

Not sure where to post this so please move to where appropriate. Question is can a Smarty be used to read generic codes? Ie non diesel? To be specific, 98 jeep grand Cherokee and a 05 set4? Just got a smart phone:hyper: and interested in an ob2 reader but if the Smarty will do it no need. Unless the app can double as a scan gauge.

I raided Wally world last week and bought every jug of 2 stroke they had. $12 and change/gallon.I just put new injectors in my 903, and I want the first sip of fuel to have the extra lube! So, here is my situation, This tractor has 2 saddle tanks, about 110 gallon each. They are connected at the bottom with a 2.5 inch pipe. My filler inlet is on one tank only, (same tank that pump draws from and returns to). I'll pour 2 gallons of wallys blue into the tank (it's about 3/4 full at this time)... and stir the crap out of it. I was thinking about getting a paint stirer chucked into my drill? The fuel cap is 4 …

This is for the old '99 that the parents have now. It's got a "miss" at idle............but only after the engine has gotten up to operating temp. Cold idle is normal with no miss. It's a miss, but the computer adjusts by increasing the idle speed slightly after warm up.. Running up and down the road, she runs as good as ever. Dad says she's been averaging 19mpg most every fill up. What should I look for and check to diagnose this??? Thanks guys!!

First break down, and first post here. I think its awesome that there are resources like this site to help others. This is my first diesel and I love it. I have put about 40k on it the past 2 or 2.5 years. Majority Highway miles. it has about 254,000 on it now and had 213,000 a few years ago when i bought it. I really like wrenching and fixing things, but with this being my first diesel, and something new to me i am a little hesitant and nervous to do some stuff, but only because i dont really know exactly what im looking at. Well today on my way home I was passing a semi and then bam, no power(throttle) what so ever. Turned off radio, tried to restart, nothing. Put haza…

I would like to know when your fuel gauge sending unit goes out, does it go all the way to empty? Or does it fool you into thinking you have enough fuel and you just end up running out of fuel?Anyone remember? Thanks very much.

My vacuum pump seal is leaking and I am going to just dish out the money for new pumps as opposed to just replacing the seals and having to tear into it again or take it to a shop again later. So I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on aftermarket or remanned pumps. I think the guy at my shop said Dodge charges over $900 for the little freakin pump lol, I have already seen some Cardone A1 pump for like $300 so I may go that route unless they suck. I am hoping to upgrade, if that's even possible, especially the steering pump since I know our trucks steering can be quite shotty as is. Also, I think I will do the fuel lines from the vp to the injectors, the inject…
