2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. A few days ago I posted a thread seeking assistance on a wiring issue with my mech gauge. The dome/courtesy lights were intermittently illuminating, and the key in ignition alarm was sounding when engine off with door closed, and ignition off. While troubleshooting today, I needed to stick my head up under the dash to look for loose grounds, etc. Well, in order for the lights to be off, and to make it more comfortable, I closed the door so I could put my feet up on seat and put my head under the dash.Anyway, when I shut the door, the lights went out as they should (ignition on/engine off) and then immediately illuminated again. I thought that's weird, so I pulled on the d…

I'm still waiting on my ss braided fuel line for my Isspro mechanical fp gauge, but decided to wire up the lights the other day. I tapped into the ash tray light as recommended by geno's garage. Now, I'm getting an intermittent condition of the dome and courtesy lights turning on while I'm driving, and today was inside the store shopping only to leave the store and come outside and hear my factory alarm honking going off. Then 5 minutes later while driving, the flasher unit started making that sound like the relay was opening and closing. My wiring is like this: Ash tray ground line is orange/black. I didn't use this, I used a ground underneath the steering whe…

What's the biggest size tire I can put on a 16" rim?Right now I'm running 265/75/16s but am thinking of either 275s or 285s, will they work or hit the wheel well or anything else? All is stock on m truck, no lift kits or anything like that. Thanks in advance.I think I should have put this in non-powertrain - apologies.

Ok got my truck back today from the shop. Complete front end. BD Adj Trackbar, all tierods, ball joints, stabilizer bracket. The steering is really tight. if you turn it it stays turned and honestly it takes a lot more effort to just turn the wheel then it did before it went in. Before it was so bad i could saw the wheel back and forth and it would make no change to the direction of the truck. So thats the story. the shop says drive it for a week and it might loosen up. The joints are Moog and i was told the drivers side is the really tight ones they actually broke 3 ball joint presses trying to get them out and finally had to cut one of them out.The question is... Is thi…

  6. Hi Guys... Love the site! Somehow, I have lost the trailer light connector that took it from the 8-pin(?) 2-rows of 4 pins rectangular connector that transitioned the wiring to the round 7-pin (?) connector for my trailer connection. The various part stores don't seem to have it. Where can I get this other than a Dodge dealer who will charge an arm and a leg? r is this an aftermarket connector I need to get at a trailer place? My preference is on-line... (Cheaper???) Thanks in advance!

I tried the hazards and nothing. Fuse, good, confirmed with a meter. Then, I blamed the relay. Replaced the relay and still nothing. Running/parking lights work so do the headlights hi & low beams. So? Where do I put the blinker fluid? ha ha ha....Not It's going to snow in the next couple of days and my plow truck really kind of needs them to be working when I'm plowing in town.:ahh::ahh::ahh::ahh: :confused2:

Has anyone ever removed the lift on a truck and returned it to its original height.I'm thinking about doing mine this summer.Don't know anything about lifts, but I assume I would need original springs, u-bolts, etc. to go back.

  14. I converted my 3500 to SRW about 4 years ago. I've included a note about the conversion in my signature on several forums. I get 1 or 2 PM's a week from people asking questions about doing an SRW swap. Back when the price of diesel was over $5.00 a gallon, I was getting 3 to 5 a week. So I thought I would post a write-up I did a few years ago. I don't mind answering PM's but it's easier just to reply with a link. The conversion is actually very simple. As far as the front end goes, just remove the wheel spacers and install a set of rims from a 2500. You'll also need lug nuts. I bought a set of 32 lug nuts from Ebay that were used but in perfect shape for $20.…

So when I bought my truck it did not come with keychain deal to lock and unlock it. I called the dealer today and they have one for my truck for 85 bucks. But they want another 60 to 70 bucks to program it. Is this something I can do myself. If so how ? I just dont want to make an appointment and waste the extra money if I don't have to.

I am new here so I am trying to get rid of the newbie rank. I have seen some post about testing wires, most stick a probe in the wire then use tape. Tape does not usually seal the hole. Use liquid tape to seal and corrosion will not be a problem. When testing several wires and you forget which wires you checked use finger nail polish for marking, then cover with liquid tape. One post closer to getting out of the newbie dog house. AkFred

I am working with my local stereo shop to map out installing a complete stereo system. Back in the day I was really big into car stereo systems. At one point right after high school my Toyota Celica (Early 1990's) had 8 12in sub, a pair of Orion HCCA amps, Zapco 18 band eq, etc....Needless to say it would rock and produce some db's..I think it measured 143db.Anyway, we already installed a pair of new 6x9's in the front doors...What a difference a quality speaker makes. I used the PR series from Memphis Car Audio. This coming week we will complete the speaker upgrade with some 6in in the quad doors. Future plans a downward fire box under the rear seat that hold 2 10in subs…
