Curious as I don't fully understand vehcile licencing here in US and we are about to move to CA. Also been reading http://dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm#BM2536 Truck is registered in MO (where we bought it) and we extended the licence this year which expires in DEC. Now we are moving to CA for 6-9 months. So a couple of questions 1) Do I need to bother with anything now as truck is licenced till DEC in MO. 2) If I stayed in CA beyond DEC - can I just renew my plates as MO plates. 3) Can I get fined for having a truck that smokes ??? Can it be worse than a fine or does that only happen at inspection time ?? I did read this here http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fa…

Was looking at my Dana part numbers for upcoming gear change when I noticed my old stock shocks are shot. Wondering if anyone with an 8600 / 8800 lb cap 4x4 extended cab has tried this and if so, are these worth the money? I would really like to hear from someone with the remote control wireless unit.

I've decided how I'm going to run the harnesses for my XZT+ & the IAT fooler. The mechanic was fussing about "all the extra wiring" under my dash while they were working on it. (Too bad he did not call me because there was the Trailer brake box & the Escort remote radar detector system... neither of which connects to the engine.) Well, I took the knee panel out. I had left the harnesses long & just zip tied them up & out of the way. Since I know I still have to have the dash pulled for the heater & AC repairs, I figured I'd create some slack to work with. (snip, snip, snip... zip ties out)So I started to install the 2 toggle switches for the X…

My vibration damper got gunked up from the puke bottle (did the mod) and my steering wheel vibrates at idle and I need to inspect it. Can the damper be removed by removing the 4 bolts that hold it? Or do I have to remove the fan and fan clutch. Do I have to mark it so it goes back like it came off. What should I use to clean it. Is it all one piece or two parts? Tx.

i left my keys in my truck friday night with the switch on and killed my batteries. got someone to jump me off and everything was fine until this morning. the truck barely turned over and would not start. had to get someone to jump me off agin. the batteries had 12 volts in them before the jump dropping to 7 when turning the switch to start. the alternator was putiing out 14.2 volts after starting. while i was looking around under the hood i noticed what you see in the picture. it appears the bolt on the mounting braket has worked its way thru the mounting point on the alternator. this aint normal is it? does anyone elses look like this? i guess its time for a new one. i …

I`m a converted 7.3 Powerstroke Ford guy and one must add a conditioner to the antifreese coolant to stop pitting. Is this also required for the Cummings 5.9 24 valve diesel as well. Tx.

I'm about to pick my truck up from the shop... they reported a rusted & cracked front coil seat on the front axle. I can't say I'm surprised with all the rust underneath... still one more thing to get tended to. I haven't got the bill yet for finding & fixing the motor-quit-in-the-street problem... or the install of the AD150, big line & pickup. edit OK, I got the truck back. Cost an arm, a leg & a nut!! I had them show me the rusted out spring perch, so I could see exactly what they were looking at. Yup, it's rusted out. I'm not finding a listing for this welded on part. Anybody know where to buy this?

Just bought this truck and it is a good truck but I get this vibration from the engine, especially at idle on the steering wheel. That`s the place I notice it most although it vibrates at other places as well but not as much as on the steering wheel., it does not skip, in fact it runs and starts great. Could this be a broken motor mount or something? After I start driving it almost stops the vibration until it`s back to idle again. Harmonic balance maybe? Tx.

Well after playing around with Excel and doing some thinking. I figured out how to figure exactly how much air pressure you need in each tire. The thing is that you need to get your truck weighed on a truck scale. The calculator needs front axle and rear axle weights. Then you'll need the weight rating of your tire and maximum air pressure rating. Then you plug the information into the calculator (blue boxes) and it will figure out when your optimal tire pressure is. Since I just weighed my truck I left my figures in the boxes as samples... Information Front Axle 4,420 Rear Axle 3,040 GAWR Front Axle 5,200 Rear Axle 6,084 Tire Max T…

Just done the crankcase vent mod w/some mods of my own. I liked the pictures of the mod but I did it a little different than what I saw. The pics. I saw showed the mod without the radiator hose which will rub against the pvc pipe when it is connected. Over time you will get a problem. If you take the 3/4" curved hose that is already on the vent to the canister you will see you can cut it to be a perfect fit to go around the radiator hose by cutting the curved part off. Put a short piece of 1/2" pvc into the hose, CLAMP IT and Attatch the 90% pvc then cut and fit the pvc to meet your needs. At the end , instead of using more pvc AS A DOWN PIPE I simply put a 3 ft. piece o…

Ok i did a search for power seats and did not come up with what i was looking for. I Have a 2002 QC and am trying to swap in a driver power seat. I did research this and it seemed that the wiring was already there according to what i found. I added the breaker and tested the wires i have. I have a 4 pin connector with 3 wires. I think it was the red/blue that powered up with the addition of the breaker it was the only wire not used in the seat connector of the non power seat. After all that i look at the seat i have as a replacement and it has a rectangle plug with many more wires then what i have. Obviously this is not going to work. Do i need a different seat? …

My Haynes Manuel says I need to pull the fan and fan shroud to remove the water pump. My question is, it looks to me like there is enough room to pull it without removing the fan and shroud. What say you? Tx.

I was leaking oil from my vacuum pump, and I just replaced the seals in my vacuum pump with the kit from Gould Gear and electric. This kit is great made the repair simple. I'm sure most of you already heard of them.

Ok Gang... I just got my replacement evaporator core from the local NAPA store. (Lifetime warranty - No cost) So when I go to pull the dash out I'm going to grab the video camera and record out the whole affair. Show you that pulling the dash is really easy on a Dodge Ram!

Ok Gang... I have had enough of my truck need constant counter-steering to the left it get back enough I'm starting to have problem hold it straight. I've got 183K miles on the clock and nothing but front axle bearing have been done. Anyone got sure fire ways of inspection of the ball joints and tie rod ends to tell if they need replacing. I know I could look in the Dodge FSM but I rather hear from all of you that have done axle work and what to look for. I can say my tires are still wearing good and straight no feathering or tappering of the tread. I'm going to jack up the nose of the truck and take a peek and see what I can find...

Was wondering if anyone has done a mod to modify the stock horns to sound better/louder. I see that mine has 2 separate horns but they sound like they should be on a tricycle. I actually won't even use the horn because it sounds so awful. Any insight would be great.
