I have only had my Dodge/Cummins for a few months. When I turn off the ignition switch and the engine comes to a halt ---- it has a sneezing sound. What on earth is that? Its sorta like a suppressed little sneeze sounding a lot like "chit"???? It seems to be more pronounced now that the weather has warmed up. Thanks in advance. mal

i'm not really sure what you refer to, but these trucks have high compression. what you might be hearing is just that, the engine stops suddenly and you hear the last compression cycle but it doesn't fire fore there is no more fuel.what i hear in mine is that plus a little belt squeel, ya know all the accessories are spinning and want to keep spinning even though engine stopped.

Could be the belts slipping a bit some call it a "Power Chirp" it's a Cummins thing...

On my son's 06, he turns it off and you hear the exhaust "exhale". It has 5" exhaust all the way. I agree with what Mike says.

I replaced the tensioner pulley and that chirp or sneeze sound was gone for good.

Thanks guys... The belt looks good but is old. I think I will put a new one on it before I hit the road on a long trip. Its good to know that is only a "Cummins" thing.

i know what you mean. after i recently went to straight pipe. i actually put my silencer ring back in! but you still hear it spin down.

I always thought that sound was the clutch on the fan. Now that I know it is the turbo it makes sence.
