What would be the best turbo for a 2001 ho six speed with 100hp ddp injectors

Tell us about the rest of the truck. Manual, auto, fuel system, programmers, timing box, gauges, etc. 

 

Also, how heavy are you planning on towing?  what are your goals for towing?  Economy? Drivability? Blazing power to fly up hills... but hopefully not down them. 

 

I like my 62, but I would like twins.  I didn't hate a stock HX when I had one, or my 35/40 hybrid though, it was just a lot hotter EGT.

The truck is 6 speed it has air dog 150 gauges intake and 5in exhaust.

MY GOALS. For towing up to 10,000 lbs I have a s300g 57/65/14 now. but it spools to slow and is smokey. egts never get over 1100 now pre turbo

Some sort of programmer would help it light.

As for being smokey, that's just the way DDP's are.

Agreed, try a programmer before you ditch that turbo. As mentioned before, you could try a 12cm housing for quicker spooling. When money permits, I will get an s300g for my setup, but I am going to get the 12cm housing

How much smoke are we talking here?  It is hard to define without pictures but I get smoke off the line with my setup when towing.  It just happens.  However, if I am empty and roll into the throttle right I don't have to smoke.  

 

I think the programmer would help, depending on what boost numbers you are seeing.  I would also check your turbo boots for any boost leaks...  They can be very hard to find and quite insidious.  What kind of boost are you seeing?

I can hit 35lbs without towing getting on it and the truck smokes pretty good even when not towing it clears up once it spool but till then pretty smokey

Like on my trip I adjusted my Edge Comp down from 5x3 to 5x2 to control smoke. It was nearly smokeless travelling. While towing I was averaging between 11-13 MPG between days with head winds and climbing 7% grades and calmer days with flat ground.

I have a quad xzt what tune would be best for towing and we're would I get it from now.

Depends... I would do some study work with fuel logging or to use a tool like ScanGauge II or UltraGauge to get MPG readings to so you can base your tuning on live numbers.

YOU still running hx35...I remember you had turbo problems and wondering if you replaced it with some'm else.

 

 what happened to your Signature 

Im still on the fence about My ATS 3000. I mean its a great turbo and i believe its bullet proof, but sometime's I'm still disappointed in spool up, specially on hot humid days like now

and when i turn the bottom loose like 3x5 or 4x4 4x5 IT ROLLS SMOKE, i mean it not roll"n COAL by any means but not the setting you want in THE YUPPY Neighborhoods either

 

    Maybe need more timing and fuel to increase D/P IDK

I can't replace it with anything else because of the exhaust brake. But yes I ate a turbo a while back with a hose clamp. :doh:

Annescott. If you have a quazilla, it wouldn't hurt to try it on a low setting to try to get some timing. I thought there were some tunes around somewhere for it. I thought somebody on here was collecting them.

Little Chinese Wire Hose clamp about 3/4" diameter and one mile of travel. Turbo destroyed... So when I went shopping for turbos and trying to find turbos that worked with my existing exhaust brake there was nothing. I was constantly turned away from upgrading from all the vendors. So I spent a little over $800 to have the existing turbo, cleaned up, rebuilt, and spun balanced by Industrial Injection (Via GOS Performance).

that wasn't too bad of a deal.. got you back good as new

yeah, most of the Aftermarket turbos have HX40 full 4"down pipe. wish somebody would come up with a solution for this, id love to have a exhaust brake

I really do love my quiet 3" pipe now. Totally drone free and got a gnarly turbo spool noise now. It just sounds wicked. Like my trip I just got home from going to St. Maries and back. very enjoyable time towing the RV. No drone. No excessive noise. Good exhaust brake function. Good MPG's... and just plain ol' Good Power! I'll admit pulling Whitebird grade and Lewiston grade both in 3rd gear and about 30-35 MPH. I wasn't in any hurry nor did I want to run 1,200*F on the pyrometer up the grades. In 3rd it pull easy and stay much cooler like 900-1000*F. If I was in a hurry I could of grabbed 4th and push the pyro the whole way up and pulled 45-50 MPH. Even running 3rd Gear I was still passing OTR trucks heading up the grades. But the ol' HX35W with the exhaust brake and my fuel management setup has be wonderful. Still having issues with tires breaking loose 2nd and 3rd gear if I'm too heavy on the throttle even towing the RV. :ashamed:

Machined stock chargers are getting popular not just for pulling classes. A lot of guys around here are getting their HX 35's machine for 62 compressor and 65 mm turbine
