Replaced the OEM one yesterday afternoon with a new one from AutoZone.  I tell you;  nothing lasts anymore, only 226,xxx miles/11years and this thing craps out on me!! :duh:  :thumb1:

Weep hole was plugged with dirt/**** etc.  The rubber O-ring was broken thru in one spot once I got her out.  Don't know if I tore it removing it though; as I had to take a wood dowel and place it on the water pump to break it free from the block.  I didn't wack it hard, just tapped to break the 11 year old dirt seal on the thing.  Once I saw that it moved from the block, it came out easily.

Cleaned up the mounting area, put a very light coat of grease on the O-ring, and re-installed.

I did remove tension on the serpentine belt, and removed the OEM air filter box to gain some elbow room to get my big hands and wrenches in there!!

No extra parts left over, and no leaks either!!! :thumb1:

Still waiting for mine to wear out eventually. Knowing my luck I'll end up doing a rebuild or refreshing the engine because it will all fall apart at the last second.

I personally thing part of that problem is the coolant turning corrosive and eating seals and bearings premature. I've proved that time and time again up here with locals. They assume as long as the c

It's almost at the top of the block, probably only 2" below the cylinder head mounting surface.

I've got a 06 in the yard right now and its low on the block like mine. As far as I know the water jacket bottom is at the water pump. Like a lot of folks do is pull the water pump out to drain the block out because it is the lowest drain point for 24V.

There is no water jacket below the water pump through. If you remove the oil cooler the bottom of the jacket is right there.  Water pump is at the bottom... So for Dorkweed yes you would end up draining the entire system so you don't spill coolant.

Maybe you have to drain more... I just don't recall it being that much thou.

Be sure to let us know dork.

I ain't stalling here guys;  the Cummins water pump is on back order thru Geno's Garage.

FWIW I put on one from AA or AZ or some other 125k ago and it is still working. Mine went and I had no choice. Wish i could remember who because it probably had a life time guarantee with it.
